India – URGENT: RSF Reports Arrest of Comrade Hindol Majumdar
We hereby share an important note by the Revolutionary Students’ Front (RSF) on a new arrest of an activist.
Yesterday (13/08/2025), long-time mass movement activist and former student of Jadavpur University, Comrade Hindol Majumdar, was arrested by Kolkata Police from Delhi Airport on a completely false case.
Kolkata Police has informed that he vandalized Bratya Basu’s car at Jadavpur University on March 1 (01/03/2025) and later the office of Trinamool Shikshabandhu Samiti located inside Jadavpur University. However, everyone in Hindol’s known friends circle and the democratic and leftist circles centered on Jadavpur University knows that Hindol Majumdar has been living in Spain for several years for his educational reasons and has not returned to the country in the last one year. We do not believe that the Kolkata Police, which has plainclothes police deployed on every campus, is not aware of this. This incident is clearly an attempt to harass Hindol Majumdar, who participated in the struggle to maintain the democratic space of Jadavpur University in the face of Brahminical aggression on campus, and to suppress the democratic voice of the student movement leadership and activists on important issues such as the student parliament, increasing allocations to the education sector, infrastructural development of the campus, and the protection of students.
We, the Revolutionary Students Front, demand that Comrade Hindol Majumdar be immediately released unconditionally and that all false cases filed against multiple students after March 1st be immediately withdrawn.
