Mexico: The Name of Ernesto Sernas García Echoes Through the Streets on the International Day of Detained Disappeared
We hereby share an unofficial translation of a report published by Newspaper Mural on the mobilizations and actions carried out on the International Day of the Detained Disappeared, 30th of August.
On the occasion of the International Day of the Detained Disappeared, the organization Current of the People Red Sun issued a national and international call to commemorate this date on the streets, taking action to demand the presentation of Dr. Ernesto Sernas García alive, who was disappeared in May 2018.
In Oaxaca, several organizations responded to the call and joined the Red Sun march that started from the Fuente de las 8 regiones to the main square, expressing solidarity with this demand and also calling for the dismissal of Michel Julián López from the State Commission for the Search of Persons in the State of Oaxaca (CEBPEO) due to his negligence in this and other cases, for violating and revictimizing families, for simulating searches, and for his evident incompetence in leading the institution.

A sea of hundreds of flags of Current of the People Red Sun was reinforced by the participation of the Komité Pëjy Tyotk, made up of family members of the activist Sandra Estefana Domínguez Martínez, as well as the Unique Union of Workers of Community Telebachilleratos of the State of Oaxaca (SUTTEBCEO), the Independent National Union of Health Workers (SINTS) Section 9, the Front of Oaxacan Organizations (FORO), the June 14 Popular Front, the Oaxacan Movement of Democratic Left (MOID), among other organizations, gathering around one thousand people who echoed the name of the well-known professor and progressive lawyer whose forced disappearance has now reached seven years.

The decisive actions took place throughout the entire route, accompanied by vigorous slogans, although an incident was recorded at the municipal police station located in the park El Llano when officers with rifles attempted to intimidate the activists. However, this action was thwarted by the strength of the organized contingent.

At the arrival at the main square, more actions took place at the government palace, concluding the activity with a combative rally where all the supportive organizations embraced the demand of presenting Dr. Sernas and the more than 130,000 victims of forced disappearance in our country alive.

In Mexico City, a march was also carried out where organizations and collectives departed from the Ángel de la Independencia heading towards the Plaza de la Constitución, carrying photographs of leaders and activists who have been disappeared by the State for decades, including Gabriel Alberto Cruz Sánchez and Edmundo Reyes Amaya, members of the Revolutionary People’s Army (EPR). During this activity, along with other cases, the forced disappearance of Dr. Ernesto Sernas García was also denounced, which is recognized by the UN Committee against Forced Disappearances in the urgent action 540/2018.

In Tamaulipas, young students also put up posters demanding the presentation of Dr. Sernas García alive.
Additionally, in several countries, various organizations joined the actions by organizing rallies at Mexican embassies and consulates, delivering diplomatic letters demanding the safe return of the Mexican activist as part of the international campaign #DrSernasPresentaciónConVida:

The Newspaper Mural published a special supplement with the call by Current of the People Red Sun and a denunciation of forced disappearances in Palestine by the Zionist entity.
This significant date has become a dagger in the chest of the old Mexican State, currently managed by the technocrat Claudia Sheinbaum, who cannot hide the more than 130,000 disappeared across the country, among whom the case of Dr. Ernesto Sernas García stands out as an action clearly committed by the Mexican State.
