Mexico: Weekly Newsletter

We hereby share an unofficial translation on the part on Mexico from the recent Weekly Newsletter of Sol Rojo.

The federal government led by technocrat Claudia Sheinbaum is deepening its anti-popular policies while entire communities continue to suffer the effects of the heavy rains that have battered the country. After the Spy Law was passed in June along with a package of new laws (all reactionary), this week reforms to the Amparo Law and the Tax Code were approved, the former of which undermines the right to federal justice protection in its essence, and the latter of which will allow the SAT and the UIF to investigate citizens’ movements in real time from their digital applications. This is no coincidence, but rather the political agenda of the State, which seeks to exercise greater control over the population (corporativism) while continuing to increase spending and the presence of the armed forces in public life (militarization).

Thus, while Morena and the bureaucratic bourgeoisie impose their model of government (very similar to the old PRI), the situation of the masses remains dire after heavy rains hit states such as Veracruz, Puebla, Hidalgo, San Luis Potosí, and Querétaro, where 76 people have been reported dead and 39 missing or unaccounted for.

The death toll is as follows: Veracruz (34), Hidalgo (22), Puebla (19), Querétaro (1), while the total number of affected municipalities is 109. However, as we have already seen, the technocrat Sheinbaum—in addition to silencing the young students of Veracruz—has ordered her Secretary of Health, David Kershenobich, not to mention “affected municipalities.”

The regime says that “everything is fine, and that aid will be reaching the victims through the army,” but in rural areas where the mainstream media does not enter and there are no State interests, communities are not being attended to immediately, as Sheinbaum promised.

Various human rights groups and popular movements have stated that the channels for the legal defense of rights are being shut down by the Mexican State, which leads to the need for new strategies of struggle and coordination of processes.

Down with reactionary laws and the war against the people!

Solidarity with the ones affected by the rains!
