Norway: Student Occupation of University in Trondheim
Kampkomiteen reports that, on November 7th, Palestine activists, including Kampkomiteen, occupied the main building of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, protesting against the collaboration agreement between the university and the Kongsberg Group, a Norwegian weapon manufacturing multinational company.
The goal of the demonstration was to have the administration concede to the demand of an assessment of the collaboration, overseen by Save the Children, with a goal of ending the collaboration. The organizations who participated in the demonstration included Students for Palestine, Student Intifada, Academic Network for Palestine at NTNU and Kampkomiteen.
The action started with the activists blocking the doors of the main building of the university, including doors of the administration. Slogans that were chanted included: “Kongsberg out of Campus!”, “Blood on your money, blood on your hands!” and “Boycott Israel, Free Palestine!”.
Despite the involvement of security guards and police, the activists got through to the administration, and the administration conceded that their demands will be brought up and discussed at the next board meeting. Kampkomiteen reports that “the campaign strengthened unity among all the participating Palestine activists and organizations. It also provided an important impulse in raising solidarity work to new heights.”
