Dem Volke Dienen – US Aggression: Mexico Halts Oil Deliveries to Cuba
We hereby share an unofficial translation of an article published by Dem Volke Dienen.
Mexican President Sheinbaum recently announced the “temporary” halt of oil deliveries to Cuba. This measure is part of the US aggression against Latin America, in this case against the sovereign State of Cuba.
The renewed US oil embargo, along with that of compliant countries, is intended to hasten Cuba’s economic collapse. The Americans are employing the same tactics as with the embargo (el bloqueo) that has been in place since the 1960s—a multi-pronged trade, economic, and financial embargo. The so-called “Cuban Democracy Act” is the openly stated objective of regime change on the Caribbean island. It is the longest-lasting trade embargo in modern history (yet the US remains Cuba’s fourth-largest exporter).
Much in Cuba depends on oil imports. Without imports of an estimated four to six million barrels per year, the island would literally go dark. Such power outages have been a daily occurrence for several years, and even Havana is regularly affected by these hour-long blackouts.
Sheinbaum is attempting to deflect blame: she stated that it was a sovereign decision by the Mexican oil company Pemex, and that the US had nothing to do with it. Decisions are not made under US pressure.
Since the US-led attack on Venezuela and the kidnapping of its head of State, Nicolás Maduro, by the Yankees, as well as their acts of piracy against oil tankers in the region, Cuba has been cut off from Venezuelan crude oil deliveries. Mexico has become the main supplier, but the last tanker reached Cuba on January 11 with 86,000 barrels of oil on board. Deliveries of this size, however, only cover Cuba’s emergency needs for a few days.
Last year, in 2025, the Cuban economy shrank by about 1.5 percent, according to reports from ECLAC. US President Donald Trump has made it clear that the Americans will take over Cuba. According to the Wall Street Journal, Trump’s administration is looking for people close to the Cuban government who could help broker a deal to overthrow the government in Havana by the end of the year. Cuba will “fail pretty soon ,” Trump said on Tuesday.
The Cuban regime under President Miguel Díaz-Canel declared a state of war last weekend due to US aggression.
