The Paraguayan National Police attacked and attempted to evict indigenous peasant families in the latifundium Estancia Americana, in the province of Canindeyú on February 3, reports AND. The latifundium is located at the Brazilian border. The indigenous peasants of this area harvest soy for their own reproduction.
The national police used live ammunition and tear gas against the families. Despite that there was a first ruling in favor of the indigenous peasants and against their eviction, however a further ruling permitted the attack against the peasants. AND reports that these attacks serve the interests of local groups linked to the Brazilian latifundium.
On 4th of February the police attacked the camp Pindoty Porã, in Corpus Christi, using tear gas and rubber bullets against men, women and children. A 25-year-old man was detained and several work tools and motorcycles were stolen by the repressive forces. The peasants fiercely faced the police brutality, erected barricades, threw stones and used fireworks against the repressive forces.
AND reports that there have previously been previous attacks against the indigenous peasants of the area, for example at the end of December 2025, when armed goons, allegedly private security forces of a Brazilian big landlord, invaded peasant territory and shot against the houses and forced many families to run to the forests to save their lives.
The Paraguayan State attempted to link the struggle for land and these indigenous peasants with “terrorism”, as the repressive forces allegedly found and detonated explosive devices in the same area, planted by the Paraguayan People’s Army (EPP).
