International mobilizations on International Women’s Day

Yesterday, March 8th, the streets were crowded, especially with women, who denounced the exploitation they live in under patriarchy. During some of these mobilizations, different activists and organizations denounced the close relationship between imperialism and patriarchy, raising slogans against imperialism and for proletarian feminism. We hereby share some of the images from the mobilizations.

In Santiago de Chile, the demonstration gathered thousands of women and, as reported by newspaper El Pueblo, important women for the revolutionary movement such as Comrade Norah, Sandra Lima, and Jiang Qing were honored.

Peru People’s Movement (MPP) has issued various statements on the occasion of the revolutionary women in Peruvian history. Comrade Norah has been remembered as an example of giving the life for the Party and the Revolution, and the Special Resolution of the First Congress of the Communist Party of Peru in 1989 has been shared.

In Kadıköy, Istanbul, Turkey, the “Great Women’s Meeting” took place, where New Democratic Women participated. During the march, a speech was given and Palestinian women were remembered. Slogans such as “From Meral to Renuka, the struggle continues”, “Imperialism will be defeated, we will win”, “A thousand salutes to the women fighting in India”, “A thousand greetings to the women fighting in Palestine”, and “A thousand greetings to the women resisting in Rojava” could be heard.

The Revolutionary Women’s Front of Working Women in Ecuador has shared a statement in which they highlight that “Proletarian women build anti-imperialist fronts around the world, we fight to forge the International Anti-Imperialist League.”

Around 15,000 people participated in this year’s march in Hamburg, Germany. Dem Volke Dienen reports that the newly founded Red Women’s Movement was well-received at the demonstration, generating a lot of interest.

Similarly, the Red Women’s Movement took to the streets in Cologne with the slogan “Forward with 8th of March! For a classist line in the women’s movement!”.

In Dortmund, people also attended the mobilization, which housed 2,000 women. Later, an information table was set up with music, and the call to action of the Red Women’s Movement was spread, and the newspaper “Rote Post” was also sold. Dazibaos also could be seen, similarly as in Düsseldorf.

In Paris, France, Ligue de la Jeunesse Révolutionnaire participated in their blocks showing images of revolutionary women such as Comrade Norah, Jiang Qing, and Clara Zetkin.

They have also published a poster for March 8th as the Day of the Proletarian Woman in Struggle and another one supporting Palestinian women who are resisting.

Kampkomiteen participated in demonstrations in Kristiansand, Trondheim, Bergen and Oslo. In the capital of Norway, according to Kampkomiteen, more than 1,000 people gathered in its bloc. In all demonstrations, the struggle of Palestine was highlighted with slogans, banners and flags denouncing the massacre. Slogans such as “Wave for wave, blow for blow, against imperialism and patriarchy”, “Get out of Iran!”, “Get out of Sudan!”, and “Lal salaam”were also shouted. In Kristiansand, a cultural meeting was done in a cafe after the demonstration.

In Copenhagen, Denmark, Anti-imperialist Action participated in the demonstration as a co-organizer together with other forces. The demonstration took place in the same place where, in 1910, Clara Zetkin led the International Socialist Women’s Conference, and established the International Day of Working Women. Another activities were done, among them, an activist from several organizations, among them, Anti-imperialist Action, made a speech highlighting the suffer from imperialism, but also that they have the most reason to rebel. The speech also highlighted that women must fight by mobilizing, politicizing and organizing in the fight for the new society.

On March 7, an open meeting was carried out for the preparation of the 8th of March. Revolutionary female activists were highlighted at the meeting, including Comrade Norah from the PCP and Leila Khaled from the PFLP.

In the Spanish State, several posters and graffiti were done in the streets of several proletarian neighborhoods in Madrid and Valencia. They also spread leaflets in front of the Immigration Center of Zapadores in Valencia, during the 8th of March demonstration that took place in València.

Die Rote Fahne from Austria highlighted the role of Hedy Urach, who was “a great heroine of the Austrian people and there is a lot from her example to learn”.
