Mexico: Weekly Newsletter

We hereby share an unofficial translation of the part on Mexico from the latest Weekly Newsletter published by Sol Rojo on the 22nd of June.

On Saturday, After a 20-day National Strike, the National Coordination of Educational Workers (CNTE) decided to end the strike and lift the sit-in that started on the 1st of June in Mexico City. The same decision was taken by the Oaxaca Coordinating Committee of Educational Workers (CETEO), who ended the strike, as well as the mobilizations that started May 25th in Oaxaca and Mexico City.

CNTE has ended the National Strike with a political declaration, clearly stating its position against the Mexican State and the presidency of the republic, highlighting six immediate demands of the teacher’s movement, these are: 1) Stop the offensive campaign and political persecution, 2) Immediate and unconditional reinstatement of all those dismissed, 3) The president of the republic should meet with CNUNC from CNTE and fulfill her promise to repeal the ISSSTE law, 4) Punishment for the Material and Intellectual authors of the repression during the mobilizations, 5) Reparation for all damage caused to the injured comrades during the repression carried out on June 1st, 6) The presentation of the 43 teacher students from Ayotzinapa alive.

Throughout the mobilizations, several unions, organizations, collectives and popular movements supported the democratic teachers, whether at the national sit-in or in the actions carried out in the different states of the republic. Our democratic organization, together with Mural Newspaper, was also present, and we have put on the table the proposal that CNTE calls on a large National Convention for the Unity of the People’s Struggles as a tool to organically join all the solidarity showed around the teacher’s struggle. This will facilitate the unification of the various small strings of the resistance into a powerful revolutionary flood, where all strikes, struggles, resistance, rebellion and dissent make a scheduled and joint action plan towards the General Strike of National Resistance against the old State and imperialism.

We continue believing that the main task of this new period is to keep the unity and morale of the education movement high, taking the lessons of the National Strike not as a defeat, but as another step in the process for the reorganization of the grassroots towards a new stage with greater combativeness, rejecting capitulation and demobilization.

Long live the National Coordination of Education Workers!

Long live the worker-peasant-student-teacher-people unity!

General Strike of National Resistance against the old State and Imperialism!
