Denmark – Røde Fane: Upcoming Solidarity Event for Palestine in Tingbjerg
We hereby share an unofficial translation of an article published by Røde Fane of Denmark, on August 16.
Sunday, August 23: Come to the Summer and Solidarity with Palestine in Tingbjerg!
The group “Active for Palestine Brønshøj/Husum/Tingbjerg,” in collaboration with other activists and people from the neighborhood, have organized a summer event called “Summer and Solidarity with Palestine in Tingbjerg.”
The event will take place from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, in Tingbjerg.
The comrades write on Facebook:
Come join us for a day of community, culture, and solidarity in Tingbjerg.
First and foremost, we are gathering in solidarity with the Palestinian people, who for generations have been subjected to displacement, ethnic cleansing, occupation, apartheid policies, and genocide.
At the same time, we want to highlight how the structures and political tools used to control, divide, and displace people are also evident here at home. Although the situations are not identical, we see common threads when people lose control over their own lives, homes, and local communities, while decisions are made over the heads of those affected.
Through master plans, development plans, and demolitions, thousands of people are affected by decisions that are often made without any real democratic input from those who must live with the consequences. Resident democracy is weakened, social communities are torn apart, and people are forced out of their homes and neighborhoods.
We see this, for example, in Tingbjerg, where residents have built strong communities and local networks over generations, but where sweeping changes are being implemented despite massive criticism from those who live in the area. When people are deprived of the right to have a real say in their own homes and local communities, it is important to raise awareness of the consequences and stand together in solidarity with those affected.
That is why we are gathering today in solidarity with Palestine and with all people fighting for the right to their homes, their land, their communities, and their dignity.
The program includes, among other things:
• Speeches
• Singing
• Poetry
• Flea market in support of Palestine
• Children’s activities and face painting
• Food, fellowship, and fun
(The detailed program will be published as it becomes available—stay tuned!)
We have received documentation of several actions that have been carried out in the local area in preparation for the event. These include bake sales, leaflet distribution, and putting up posters:
