Chile: School of Political Formation
We hereby share an unofficial translation of a joint report posted by Colectivo HipHop Rebelde, with Newspaper El Pueblo, Estrella Roja Ediciones and Movimiento Cine Popular on August 17.
5. Module School for Political Formation: Press and Means of Popular Communication
On Saturday of last week we experienced a new session of the School of Political Formation for People’s Artists Luis Díaz, where we developed our fifth module: “Press and Means of Popular Communication”.
Through this opportunity, we could get to know and share our particular experiences of popular communication directly linked with the struggles of the people and with the necessity of constructing our own tools to inform, denounce, organize and contribute to raising the consciousness of the people.
Newspaper El Pueblo shared with us their experience with communicational display made through popular and democratic press, addressing the work they develop in the distinct conflicts and struggles, as well as the importance of linking the communicational work with the masses and the popular organizations.
Estrella Roja Ediciones introduced us to their publishing experience and also to a journey through the history of political magazines in Chile, which allowed us to reflect on the role that the political publications have fulfilled and can keep fulfilling as tools for organization and formation.
Finally, we were joined by the Movimiento de Cine Popular (Movement of Popular Cinema), sharing from where the experience of the photo workshops developed in the protests, showing how the audiovisual tools can be put into service of the popular struggles and of the construction of memories and organization.
We, as workers of art and culture, need to organize, articulate, and continue to develop politically, so that our work is not limited to expressing the reality but to actively contribute in the struggle.
With this we grow closer to the culmination of this fruitful path that we have constructed collectively. We want to already leave with you the invitation to the sixth and final module of our School where we will treat “Direction methods for political and cultural organizations” as well as our closing ceremony, which will include a gathering and, of course, an artistic performance.
