Yankee Imperialism Expands its “Counterterrorism” Apparatus in Latin America

In an advancement of the Yankee imperialist agenda of incorporating agents of the States of Latin America into its repressive “counterterrorism” apparatus, State prosecutors and police of various States of Latin America are sent to participate in the workshop “Combating Iran and its Representatives in the Americas,” A Nova Democracia (AND) reports.

This workshop is sponsored and supported by Yankee imperialism, and comes as yet another maneuver to further submit the States of Latin America to Yankee imperialist interests. AND writes that in the Yankee “counterterrorism” apparatus, the targets range from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), to the so-called “Iranian proxies,” including Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hamas in Palestine, the Popular Committees in Yemen, the Popular Mobilization Forces in Iraq, and other groups gathered in the so-called “Axis of Resistance.” Paraguay and Argentina have already classified several of these groups as “terrorists.”

In Asunción, Paraguay, where the meeting will take place, the US maintains the Office of Development, Assistance and Training of Overseas Prosecutors (OPDAT), that is currently recruiting for a position as “Resident Legal Advisor,” which will be tasked with “strengthening the investigation, prosecution and trial of terrorism and terrorist financing cases,” and who will travel “extensively throughout Paraguay and Latin America.”

AND writes additionally that in March of 2026, the International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program (ICITAP) linked to the US Department of Justice, conducted the second module of a five-part program called “Counterterrorism Investigations and Hybrid Actors” in Lima, Peru. According to the US government, this program intends to “improve the capabilities of partner countries to identify, monitor, arrest, and prosecute terrorist proxies and cells” and brought together investigators, analysts, prosecutors, and judges from Peru, Argentina, and Paraguay.

This second module focused its attention on digital forensics, with a course “investigating and prosecuting complex counterterrorism cases involving malicious activity supported by Iran and hybrid threat networks in the Western Hemisphere.” The training included modules on “device architecture,” “data acquisition methods,” “cryptography,” and “mobile device forensics” (Android and iOS), with mobile screening tools capable of “quickly extracting metadata, application data, and forensic backups,” AND reports.

AND repeats the revealing objectives stated by Washington: “The initiative should strengthen the capacity of partner countries to dismantle these networks, ‘safeguarding US citizens and interests abroad’ and supporting ‘broader US national security objectives,’ in order to increase the ‘regional stability’ of the so-called Western Hemisphere – that is, to counter forces it considers threats to the maintenance of its semi-colonial domination over oppressed Latin American countries.”

AND also points out that these developments are not only aimed at the resistance movements of Eastern Asia, but will also be used to target anti-imperialist and communist movements in Latin America, linking the developments to the summit held in July, in Washington, with representatives from dozens of governments, as well as members of the FBI, the Treasury Department, and the White House, to expand the international pursuit of so-called “far-left political terrorism” a category under which the Trump administration has begun to categorize communist and anti-imperialist organizations.
