Brazil: Committee to Boycott the Electoral Farce Formed in Brasília and Successful Film Screening and Discussion Event Carried Out in Pernambuco

A Nova Democracia reports that in preparation for the upcoming elections on October 4, revolutionary activists in Brasília have formed the Committee to Boycott the Electoral Farce, the initiative being part of a “national movement rejecting the electoral farce and the crisis of legitimacy of the old State in the eyes of the masses.” The formation of the committee comes after an in-depth study of the electoral farce and the character of the old Brazilian State, at the invitation of the People’s Women’s Movement (MFP).

AND notes that the committee has already carried out activities throughout the Federal District, and plans to expand their work to their places of study, work and residence. On September 10, as part of the boycott campaign, activists from the Honestino Guimarães Base Collective (CBHG) participated in a stall on the University of Brasília (UnB) Darcy Ribeiro campus, distributing leaflets and Issue No. 261 of the A Nova Democracia newspaper, serving as a general overview of the boycott.

AND writes: “The slogan ‘Elections, no! Revolution, yes!’, present in the Boycott Committee’s leaflet, was presented by activists as a way out for young people who, according to them, are bombarded with institutional illusions by the false ‘left’ and by the media monopoly itself. To the local correspondent of AND, the activists reported that students expressed surprise at the presentation of a truly combative option for achieving democratic rights and confronting fascism, without ‘selling’ promises like a candidate.”

On the evening of the same day, CBHG and the Popular Liberation Group (GLP) jointly held the debate titled “Beyond the ‘lesser evil’: Against the electoral farce, building popular power!” at the Recita Cultural Center in Taguatinga. AND writes that the “aim of the debate was to take the boycott campaign against the electoral farce beyond the so-called ‘blank vote’ or even abstention from the bourgeois election.”

Covered during the debate were the topics of using unions as springboards for electoral campaigns, which was denounced by the GLP, mentioning examples of what they characterized as betrayal by the leadership of the Teachers’ Union of the Federal District (Sinpro-DF) during the 2025 strike, where protests were launched by a portion of the teachers against the union leadership, calling them “scabs” and “traitors.” The banners of the Agrarian Revolution and the defense of the League of the Poor Peasants (LCP) were also raised.

Finally, the persecution of peasants in Rondônia and the criminalization of popular advocacy was denounced by one of the activists, citing the recent example of the arrest of the lawyer Lenir Correia, highlighting the fact that “the old State, through the Judiciary and its repressive forces, modifies or ignores its own legislation to repress the people’s fighters who battle against the domination of the ruling classes – in this case, more specifically, the latifundium.”

More activities are being prepared by the Boycott Committee, on September 24, the Brasília Executive of Pedagogy Students (ExBEPe), in partnership with CBHG and the International Anti-Imperialist League (AIL) Brazil section will hold the event “The anti-imperialist struggle and the role of youth in the revolution.”

Successful film screening and discussion in honor of comrade Manoel Lisboa carried out by Mangue Vermelho Collective and Marx-Engels Study and Debate Group

On September 4, the Marx-Engels Study and Debate Group (GEDME), together with the Mangue Vermelho Collective, held a successful film screening and discussion at Brazilian Federal Public University in the State of Pernambuco (UFRPE), in honor of comrade Manoel Lisboa, who fell in combat 53 years ago, and in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution (GPCR), People’s Revolutionary Student Movement (MEPR) reports.

The Mangue Vermelho Collective opened the event commemorating the GPCR, stating that with the construction of the Chinese revolution and amidst the arduous struggle to build socialism, the CCP, going against the revisionist and restorationist current running in the USSR, initiated the GPCR, a powerful weapon to maintain socialism and make the proletarian line triumph over the bourgeois line.

MEPR writes that the representative of GEDME recalled the trajectory of the great communist leader, Comrade Manoel Lisboa, pointing out that he was profoundly influenced by the echoes of the Chinese Revolution and the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution. Lisboa wrote the “12-Point Letter to the Revolutionary Communists,” where he affirms that the path of the Brazilian revolution must be based primarily on the countryside and that, based on the worker-peasant alliance, the party of the proletariat has as its best weapon the People’s War, and that this has a protracted character; that the Brazilian revolution is not immediately socialist, that it is, in reality, a democratic and anti-imperialist revolution.

The representative reminded those present that it was on the basis of this document that the Revolutionary Communist Party (PCR) was founded, and that those who today turn a blind eye to the work of Comrade Manoel Lisboa, but use his image to gain attention and votes, to paint themselves red and as revolutionaries, are in fact spitting on his memory.

After the screening of the film “What life was like during the Chinese Cultural Revolution,” a debate ensued. The debate focused primarily on the vast differences between the society we live in and the one depicted in the film, MEPR reports. The prominent role of women was emphasized, and how in Chinese society at the time they worked alongside men in all activities, from military training to factory work, showing that the gender oppression that existed in the old world was crushed by proletarian ideology.

The debate concluded by reaffirming the importance of the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution for the entire international proletariat. The representative of GEDME recalled that it was in the impetus of the GPCR that the struggle between two lines in the International Communist Movement (ICM) was intensified, delineating the revisionist, bourgeois, and reactionary lines from the truly proletarian line, and that Comrade Manoel Lisboa himself had taken part in this struggle for the proletarian line.
