On October 21, the United States announced the opening of a regional “anti-narcotics” office in Asunción, the capital of Paraguay, which will coordinate US Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) programs throughout the southern regions of Latin America, A Nova Democracia reports.

The announcement was made by the US State Department during a State visit to Paraguay of Under Secretary Christopher Landau, where this measure was announced, along with the deployment of an embassy advisor specializing in “counterterrorism,” and 11,75 million USD earmarked for “security assistance,” which includes “5,6 million USD for combating the financing of terrorism, operationalizing the counterterrorism center, border security, and analyzing digital evidence, and $6.25 million earmarked for ‘combating transnational organized crime.’” AND reports.

The INL is a US State department agency “responsible for international security and drug enforcement programs.” The new “counterterrorism” advisor will be tasked with overseeing new and existing programs, expanding the direct participation of US officials in conducting these initiatives, AND reports.

This offensive directly targets the so-called Triple Frontier – the tri-border area of Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil. The new Counterterrorism Company of Paraguay, located in the Ciudad del Este – just some kilometers from the border with Brazil – was also visited by Landau, along with the lackey President Santiago Peña, who presented the creation of the company, which has received training by the US military, as a “sovereign decision.”
