Spanish State – Servir al Pueblo: Solidarity with Aratz and Malen, Victims of a Police Set-Up

Hereby we share an unofficial translation of an article published by Servir al Pueblo on November 3.

Note from Servir al Pueblo: We received this article via email from a contributor. The article discusses a police set-up against two Basque comrades who have been arrested on terrorism charges.

Solidarity with Aratz and Malen

Once again, we are faced with a clear attack on revolutionary political activism by the very depths of the repressive apparatus of the Spanish imperialist State. Everything about this case of a supposed “routine check” is extremely strange, in which the spokespeople for capital have not ceased to repeat claims about the alleged sensitive information that was seized. With each article, the gravity of the events was escalated and exaggerated. All of this was compounded by the leak and publication of photos of the detainees and the launch of a smear campaign targeting them and their families.

Despite the alleged gravity of what was seized, the arrest of Aratz and Malen was not warranted. Alleged coordinates for weapons and old caches belonging to… the all-powerful wild card of the ETA! Despite an exhaustive search by the repressive forces, not a single trace of their existence has been found.

As this entire police setup crumbles under its own weight, the spokespeople for capital are forced to tone down their sensationalist accusations against the comrades. Meanwhile, two people remain in pretrial detention without a shred of evidence to support the serious charges against them. The only justification cited for their continued detention is a seized video explaining how to refill a paint sprayer.

All of this makes it clear that the true objective of this police setup is to terrorize political activists who are at the forefront of the struggle against the imperialist State. They want to lay the groundwork and create the political context to outlaw Jardun, the organization with which these comrades are allegedly linked (even though Jardun has repeatedly denied any connection between their coordination and the detainees).

While all this is happening, we have two new political prisoners in the Spanish State’s jails as a result of this crude police setup. In the face of this, all we can do is continue fighting for the release of those detained, as well as redouble our efforts in the struggle for the national and class emancipation of the Basque proletariat.
