Luiz Inácio increasingly handing over the government to the ‘center’, the Bolsonarists of yesterday

We publish an unofficial translation of an article published in A Nova Democracia found here.

After approving the “tax reform” and other measures treated as central by the local ruling classes and imperialism, Luiz Inácio’s government will have to pay the bill. The bill is expensive and the payment method is to hand over the government even more to the traditional right, specifically to the “center”.

On the 15th, the press monopoly “Estadão” reported that the PT summit resolved the issue as follows: for “governance”, the party would have to “cut its own flesh”. The growing handing over of the government to the traditional right cannot be is stopped, the question would be how to do it in a dripping manner and maintaining what is strategic for its project. Thus, the only consideration is to avoid, as much as possible, the delivery of matters considered strategic, as they are the government’s “social showcase”, such as Health and Social Development (responsible for the “Family Bag”). The rest is on the negotiation table.

Arthur Lira, as head of the scoundrels called “center”, presented, in turn, the demand to get positions at the head of two ministries and some State companies (where, as everyone knows, a lot of money circulates). Those awarded will be the PP and the Republicans.

It is a tragicomic scene. It was the same Luiz Inácio who treated the head of the PP, Ciro Nogueira, as the worst criminal in the world, last year, when he was a first-time ally and chief minister of the Civil House of the then president, Jair Bolsonaro. The reciprocity was true. Now, the party headed by Ciro Nogueira – the “terrible Bolsonarist” – will be part of the government. Ciro himself, in an interview, said that perhaps he himself would not assume a role in the government, as that would “hurt” Bolsonaro. Hilarious!

It was Luiz Inácio himself who, in January 2022, harshly criticized Bolsonaro for being hostage to the “center”. He said at the time: “There has never been, in the history of the Republic, a government so fragile, so discredited, so inoperative and impotent in relation to Congress. Bolsonaro does not decide anything, does not order anything, does not control anything, not even the Union Budget, which must be managed by the Executive Branch”. What harsh words! And they turned against him.

But, after all, it is for “governance”. For the opportunists, anything goes to keep the (self-proclaimed) “left” in government, even if the government is of the right, increasingly explicitly and openly, whether by its program, its measures or its members.
