US: The Worker – German Police Attack Palestine Bloc at the LLL March

We publish a statement by the editorial board of The Worker.

German Police Attack Palestine Bloc at the Lenin, Leibknecht, Luxemburg March in Berlin

On Sunday January 14, the annual march for Lenin, Liebknecht, and Luxemburg was held in Berlin. At this year’s march the comrades brandished the glorious red flags of the International Communist League and raised the slogan “From the river to the sea” in solidarity with the Palestinian struggle for national liberation and the right to self-determination. In Germany such solidarity is against the law.

A little bit about this slogan and little bit about the hypocrisy of the reactionary old German state:

From the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea are the historical geographical markers of Palestinian land. This slogan represents the demand for a single, secular Palestinian state and freedom for the people within it. The German reactionary bourgeoisie pretend that the Palestinians and their supporters internationally call for the genocide of the Jews with this statement. On the other hand, the German state turns a blind eye to the actual genocide of Palestinians carried out by the Zionist entity. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamen Netanyahu mocked the Palestinian slogan which the Germans are so worried about when he said that Israel will conquer and take over the entirety of the region “from the river to the sea.” Of course, no German police thugs were sent over to attack Netanyahu and the massive support of the German ruling class for the Israeli oppressors continue.

The police in Berlin launched their reactionary, craven, and violent attack on our comrades. Our comrades are not victims; they are courageous fighters and truly believe in their fight. In the videos posted online the police can be seen entering and charging the crowd unprovoked, and instead of cowering or dispersing the brave marchers held their positions and resisted the brutal assailants. They held to their flags and to their chants and did what good communists do—they rebelled against imperialism and reaction. The comrades fought back against the police barrage for over 45 minutes, injuring at least 21 police.

It has been reported by the bourgeois media that one of the comrades is approximately 65 years old and had entered the hospital in a critical condition. He is said to be recovering now and is reading a copy of the Red Post, a revolutionary newspaper belonging to the proletarian revolutionary forces in Germany. The German police arrested 16 comrades, most of whom have been freed. Two comrades remain in custody and a march has been called to demand their release. The rally is called for January 24th.

The Worker adds its voice to the voices of the international proletariat and people of the world in condemning the reactionary assault on the comrades at the LLL demonstration in Germany. We stand in full international solidarity with our heroic comrades who battled against the brutes of the old state, who did so remarkably and as revolutionaries cut from the cloth of Lenin, Liebknencht, and Luxemburg!
