It was reported that AIA members took to the streets of Dundalk, Ireland, on 4th of August along with other Republicans and Anti Fascists to send a clear message to those fascists who are intending sowing hate and division within the town. The demonstration, which vastly outnumbered the fascist mob, successfully prevented them from holding their rally at their planned spot, then having to be escorted out of the area by the Public order unit. In the words of Óglach Frank Ryan, “As long as we have fists and boots.. there will be no free speech for traitors”.
While the Free State facilitates fascists causing hate and division across the County, Republicans and Anti Fascists come in for harassment on a very regular basis. A Republican Activist has been harassed by Gardaí following the anti-fascist protest in Dundalk. During the protest, members of AIA and other Republicans were kept under surveillance by the Special Branch, who made pathetic attempts to intimidate the AIA activists in vain.
AIA were not the only Republicans harassed yesterday, but Saoradh members also were followed by the Branch after the protest and held on the ground at the side of the road as the branch ripped apart the car they were traveling in.
On 3rd of August, at a Loyalist demonstration in Belfast, the reactionary ‘Coolock Says No’ stood side by side with Loyalist Paramilitaries beneath the butchers apron. For years, AIA and Republicans have highlighted the links between the tiny Free State Fascist with British Loyalism in Ireland.
