News on the People’s War in the Philippines

In the recent weeks there have been new actions by the New People’s Army (NPA) in the framework of the People’s War lead by the Communist Party of Philippines (CPP) against the old Philippine State and imperialism, mainly Yankee.

Six soldiers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) were eliminated in Central-North Mindanao from March to July. Additionally 12 soldiers more were injured. The actions were done in offensive actions against groups of AFP soldiers and also in defensive actions facing attacks from the AFP against units and camps of the NPA.

On 10th of August NPA units attacked the camp of the 93rd Reconnaissance Division Company and the camp of the 2nd Infantry Battalion, both at the town of Milagros, Masbate. These AFP forces are part of the troops which protect Yankee imperialism activities in the area, among them the military exercises called Balikatan.

There are also reports on numerous crimes committed by the old Filipino State across the whole country: on July 29 the old State arrested four peasant organizers at Central Luzon and falsely accused them of having armament. After arrest them, the repressive forces kept them in very bad conditions, denied medical treatment to them and tortured them. On the same day a peasant was arrested, tortured and killed at the south of Negros island by the AFP, special Filipino forces and the Philippine National Police – PNP. PRWC reports that since Marcos II came to power, there have been 754 recorded incidents against the people with more than 55,000 victims and among them, 48 peasants have been extra-judicially killed by the AFP and the PNP. PRWC also denounces that the peasantry is facing mega-projects and loot by the imperialists and big landlords as well it faces the abuses by the old State. On this same island another extra-judicial killing is denounced on July 30 when a young red combatant was murdered.

On August 2 a peasant organizer was detained in Santa Elena, Camarines Norte. She was tortured and forced to admit that she was part of the NPA. She was blindfolded and 10 soldiers surround and threat her, and forced her to dig her own grave.

Another recently reported crime has been in Samar where the AFP detained and murdered a peasant along with another civilian on 8th of July after being tortured. The old Philippine State commits crimes against the people on daily basis. However the people keeps struggling on daily basis and answering the aggressions by the old State, which is at the service of big landlords and Yankee imperialism.
