Bangladesh: Attacks by the Old Order on Just Demands

We hereby publish a resume of a statement by the New Democratic People’s Front, Bangladesh:

The New Democratic People’s Front strongly condemned and protested by mass mobilization the brutal attack by the police on the primary school teachers, who took a stand for the nationalization of a primary school.

Today, on January 26, 2025, the masses of the New Democratic People’s Front have strongly condemned the abuser attack on the teachers demanding the nationalization of the school in Shahbag. At one point, police fired sound grenades at the teachers who were protesting peacefully.

We note that this is not an isolated incident. Some time ago, students were brutally attacked by the police on the campus of the Dhaka University. On the other hand, the inaction of the police was clear during the various crimes that took place in the country, such as broken shrines, attacks on indigenous students, etc. But whenever the people are taking to the streets with their just demands, the police are trying to suppress it.

We think that such behavior is a clear irresponsibility of the State and a clear proof of human rights violations. The interim government must take responsibility for the attack. Attacking peaceful protesters, the government highlights its intolerant attitude, which is against the masses.

The New Democratic People’s Front is demanding strict action against the policemen responsible for the attack and guaranteeing the treatment of the injured. Besides, teachers are urging the government to accept the just demands.

We want to make it clear that attempts to suppress the legitimate demands of the people have failed again and again and will fail again in the future. If this policy of repression against the people continues, a greater united resistance will be formed against it.
