Brazil is witnessing multiple mobilizations, including those by students. We regularly report on the struggles in the countryside, as well as workers mobilizations, struggles in working-class neighborhoods, and anti-imperialist mobilizations in the country.

Students are part of these struggles, and A Nova Democracia (AND) reports on numerous such struggles. One of these has taken place at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) in Florianópolis. There, dozens of indigenous students have occupied their housing at UFSC since February 18, demanding that they be provided with the necessities for living. These students were given accommodation at the university, but there have been numerous health issues since 2020.

The indigenous students at UFSC have previously achieved numerous victories, as AND reports: https://anovademocracia.com.br/sc-estudantes-indigenas-da-ufsc-conquistam-vitorias-com-greve-de-ocupacao/
Students have also mobilized at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), where on February 26, they held a demonstration against the precarious conditions of the Center for Philosophy and Human Sciences (CFCH). They mobilized in front of the rector’s office and blocked the main vehicle entrance to the university. The students protested after a flood caused the loss of many resources, including documents, due to a lack of preventive measures, thus affecting academic and research work. The students took on the work of protecting and relocating documents, as well as cleaning, in response to the inaction of the educational institutions.
Following these events, the students held an assembly to denounce the precarious conditions of the university’s facilities, the lack of infrastructure, and the negligence of the educational institutions.

During these activities, the students have been putting up posters and distributing flyers to raise awareness about the situation and decided to hold a mobilization on the 26th to protest and push for improvements and a change in attitude from the educational administrations. Initially, the mobilization was a gathering in front of the rector’s office. Subsequently, the gathering turned into a demonstration and moved toward the entrance of UFPE, blocking access.
