Victory against Google/YouTube censorship: AND’s channel is back online.

In a resounding victory against the censorship imposed by the North American monopoly Google/YouTube, the newspaper A Nova Democracia has reestablished its channel on the video platform, with a collection of over 10 years of reports and exclusive coverage of the popular struggles of the Brazilian people. This victory was a direct result of the massive solidarity campaign for the newspaper, which mobilized workers, peasants, intellectuals, journalists, legal experts, and activists from various causes, particularly from the pro-Palestine movement, as well as the strong legal support for press freedom from the law firm Flora, Matheus e Mangabeira Sociedade de Advogados (FMMSA).

The channel is now live and can be accessed by over 70,000 subscribers. AND is finalizing the last necessary steps to gain internal access to the channel and resume live programs there. Currently, the programs are being broadcast on the TV AND channel.

The process was initiated in response to the censorship that YouTube applied to the AND channel due to our courageous and intrepid journalistic coverage of the national liberation war of the Palestinian people, particularly since October 7, 2023. AND was the first Brazilian popular newspaper to launch a program on YouTube entirely dedicated to covering the National Resistance struggle and denouncing the genocide of the Palestinian people. In February, AND obtained an urgent favorable injunction that forced YouTube to grant full access to the journalistic material stored on the AND channel. The video platform received the notice and immediately contacted the newspaper to reverse the imposed censorship.

The resounding victory of AND occurred without our platform reducing its commitment to journalistic coverage of the national liberation war of the Palestinian people. In the days immediately following the censorship, AND launched a powerful solidarity campaign and broadcast the program Plantão Palestina on Instagram and Twitch, continuing to publish dozens of statements about Palestine on its online portal. Today, AND has an Instagram page dedicated exclusively to covering the war in Palestine.

The journalistic coverage committed to the struggles of the Brazilian people and the popular masses around the world has also been maintained. In February, AND created the TV AND channel and resumed broadcasting the program A Propósito, with analyses of the national and international political situation from the perspective of the popular masses.

Thanks to the victory achieved by AND, the lawyers from FMMSA, and the enormous contingent of lovers of democratic freedoms who joined forces with the popular and democratic press, our platform will soon be reestablishing journalistic coverage on its original channel.
