The State of Israel attacked Lebanon on the morning of March 22, killing seven people and injuring another 31 in various areas of the east and south of the country. These have been the deadliest attacks since the ceasefire was signed on November 27 of last year. The attacks occurred in the village of Touline, with another strike on the southern city of Tyre, both in the south. The towns of Hosh al-Sayyid and Sarin in the Baalbek-Hermel region of eastern Lebanon were also targeted.
Israel claims that it attacks these areas in response to rocket fire launched from Lebanon, allegedly by Hezbollah and that is targeting its positions, while the Lebanese resistance organization denies having launched such rockets at Israeli positions. These rocket attacks are said to have occurred against the illegal Israeli settlement of Metulah. Officials from Hezbollah, as well as the Lebanese state, state that this is a new attempt to drag the country into an escalation, in line with Israeli plans.
Palestine Chronicle reports that as a result of the Israeli offensive since October 8, 2023, 4,115 Lebanese have been murdered and 16,909 injured, including many children. 1.4 million people have been displaced. It also reports that despite the ceasefire agreement on November 27, 2024, Israel has committed at least 1,188 violations of this agreement, murdering 94 people and injuring another 300. The State of Israel has also not fully withdrawn its troops from southern Lebanon on February 18, as it was agreed, but continues to occupy five key hills in Lebanon.
