Turkey: “The guards threatened me, and the doctor did not reported on what occurred”
We hereby share an unofficial translation of an article published by Yeni Demokrasi. We previously reported on this same case of repression against the 10 detained revolutionaries in İzmir:
Ten revolutionaries who were imprisoned in İzmir and placed in Menemen Type T Prison were subjected to violence by the guards for refusing to comply with a standing count.
The revolutionaries, who were detained during home raids for participating in public protests and were arrested yesterday morning, were attacked in prison.
Partizan reader Diyar Fındık, ESP Central Committee member Birkan Polat, Serdar Aktürk and Cemal Kara from the Struggle Union Platform, TÖP İzmir Representative Hasip Erkan Gökder, HDK Youth member Emre Sarıkaya, Oğuzhan Salman from the Colors of Resistance, and Yusuf Metin Karakaya and Sefa Salman from Word and Action, as well as Mert Gökdeniz Ün were arrested early yesterday morning.
GUARDS THREATENED THE PRISONERS
The guards threatened the prisoners and attacked them by saying, ‘If you file a complaint, it will get worse.’ The prison’s infirmary doctor did not provide a report regarding the marks resulting from the guards’ torture. During a closed meeting with their families today, the prisoners reported that they had signs of torture on certain parts of their bodies.
