80 years of the liberation of Austria
When Hitler’s German Reich capitulated 80 years ago, Austria also was liberated from the oppression by the fascist occupation. Tens of thousands Austrian gave their lives for this liberation in the fight against fascism. With this, they paid their immortal contribution for the liberation of Austria and have been the vanguard combatants for a liberated nation, in which the fate and decision over the future should lie in the people´s hands. Despite all the heroism and all the sacrifices, the antifascist resistance was not able to achieve the liberation of fascism entirely by its own effort. It was the troops of the Allied forces, but especially the Soviet Union, who came to rescue Austria. It was the Soviet Union, that offered the highest price, paying 27 million deaths in the second World War and it was also the force of the Soviet Union, that despite the price broke Hitlers neck!
The legacy of the antifascist resistance of the people and the liberation through the Soviet Union, are facts over which, those who rule in Austria are completely unpleased. They adorn themselves with the biographies of particular resistance fighters on the anniversary days and commemorate speeches. As if it were something absolutely natural, they commemorate “moved” the nations liberation of the german fascism. But they remain silent about the fact that this antifascist people’s struggle was a struggle for national self-determination and liberation, these ideas are still dangerous nowadays. And they remain silent about the fact that without the Soviet Union, Austria would still be a part of “Greater Germany”, because their sagacity nowadays, the one they are indoctrinating nearly every citizen, declares that the principal enemy sits in Russia and the “good” comes from Brussels (and not from Berlin).
It is completely understandable that the rulers, their state apparatus, and the journalists remain silent, whitewashing, lying and distorting, to present and interpret the history and their lessons exclusively with their personal interest point of view. How else they could push through their personal program today? How else could they keep on arming themselves for their war plans? How else could they push through this sniffing around that the state does with their surveillance programs? How else could they keep on dividing and inciting? How else could they degenerate and destroy the conquests of former decades? How else could they do all this, if they would not destroy, deny and whitewash permanently the legacy of the national liberation struggle and the lessons of the shatter of the fascism?
This is how the rulers and their lackeys did, right from the beginning on, since Austria got liberated of the German foreign rule. They hindered the complete extermination of fascism along with its root, the capitalist system. They are the sworn enemy of the people, because they profit meanwhile the rest have to face welfare cuts, incite against jobless, warmongering, degradation of democracy, militarization, and price increase. But we oppose the incite and individualization with people’s solidarity, we raise the banner of the unity of the people against the oppressors and thieves of the society, we fight for the friendship of peoples, against their bloody war plans.
We lead a campaign for the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the German fascism. We organize ourselves, defend and spread the lessons, that the people and especially the working class have learned, in their long history of struggle and achievements. The Austrian liberation front wrote in 1944, that: “the establishment and assurance of a free, independent and democratic Austrian People’s Republic is an historic necessity in the interest of national, economic and cultural development of our people, in the interest of all peace loving neighboring peoples (…) and the interest of the European peace.” Many of it is valid again today. It is worth to fight decisively for many of it today, against the dominance of capital and warmongering!
