Norway: Kampkomiteen’s Statement for the 1st of May
We hereby share an unofficial translation of a statement published by Kampkomiteen.
Statement: Forward for a Struggling May Day!
The Kampkomiteen calls for participation in the efforts for a struggling May Day – in support of the Palestinian resistance struggle, for the poor peasants in Brazil, against attacks on the people’s welfare and rights, and for the establishment of the Anti-Imperialist League.
Workers and the oppressed in all countries, unite!
Forward for a Struggling May Day!
The Kampkomiteen salutes the workers’ international struggle on the 1st of May. Workers, women, youth, all anti-imperialists and internationalists – join us in the struggle for a powerful May Day! We raise the red flag against imperialist war, against Israel’s genocide, against rising costs of living and welfare cuts, for struggle and resistance, and for the establishment of the Anti-Imperialist League.
The U.S.’s lackey, Israel continues its genocidal war against Gaza. Israel has murdered over 60,000 Palestinians. Israel has bombed Gaza’s last hospital. Zionists are massacring children and youth, aid workers and doctors, journalists and humanitarian workers. We will never forget this genocide. We will never forget that the Norwegian authorities are complicit, as they condemn the resistance struggle, support Israel’s “right to self-defense,” and profit from the genocide, including through the oil fund’s investments in Israel.
The Palestinian people and their combatants are waging a heroic struggle for a free Palestine. The Palestinian people’s growing struggle fills the imperialists and Zionists with desperate fear. Israel claims that the existence of the State is threatened, and that is true! The peoples of the world have turned their backs on Israel in disgust. New fighters have enlisted in the resistance struggle. The Palestinian people will never allow themselves to be exterminated, and they will continue the struggle until Palestine is free. All anti-imperialists stand shoulder to shoulder with the Palestinian resistance, and this 1st of May, the Palestinian flag will fly alongside the red flag around the world.
This 1st of May, the Kampkomiteen also expresses support for the landless peasants in Brazil. Like their brothers and sisters in Palestine, Brazilian landless peasants are struggling for land and for their lives. They are battling against big landlords and foreign imperialists who are destroying nature and plundering the people. Organized in the League of the Poor Peasants (LCP), tens of thousands of poor peasant families struggle under the slogan “Land to those who work it!” This just struggle faces the terror of big landlords’ goons and the rotten military forces of the old State. The comrades who struggle raise their flags defiantly against oppression and exploitation, and they have raised the banner to establish the Anti-Imperialist League, which will unite anti-imperialists in all countries for a common struggle. This 1st of May, we also raise the banner for the Anti-Imperialist League.
The capitalist class’s paid lackeys, their economists and journalists, claim that the cost of living crisis is over in Norway. But even here, in one of the world’s richest and most imperialist countries, the burdens of capitalism’s crises are increasingly placed on the people’s shoulders. The cost of living crisis is not over, as prices continue to rise, and real wages are lower than before. Mortgage rates remain high. The exchange rate is still low. Municipalities and the State are implementing significant cuts to public welfare, and they are planning new cuts. There are alarms about a general practitioner crisis, a hospital crisis, and a maternity ward crisis, but the cuts continue. Schools and youth clubs are being closed, while police and media scare with “Swedish conditions” and “record-high cocaine use.” The cost of living crisis is not a natural disaster; it is a result of the capitalists’ increased expenses being shifted onto the shoulders of the working class and the people. We will pay for Norwegian imperialism, the State, and the monopolies to increase their profits and also to prepare for war. This 1st of May, we call for struggle and resistance against rising costs, rearmament and attacks on public welfare.
The people’s democratic rights and freedoms are also under attack. The State is attempting to restrict the right to protest by putting Sami environmentalists and Palestinian activists on trial – simply for expressing themselves or engaging in passive resistance. The police are to be armed, young people of color are to be stopped and searched on the streets, minors are to be imprisoned, and the intelligence service is to monitor all citizens’ activities online. Politicians and their lackeys in the media claim “democracy is threatened” and point to Trump and Putin, but the greatest threat to the people’s democratic rights is found when politicians look in the mirror. We will hold up this mirror this 1st of May and show how the ruling classes break their own laws to defend their power against the challenges from activists and struggling masses.
Three years after the full-scale invasion, Russian imperialism continues its unjust war of aggression against Ukraine. We maintain our solidarity with the Ukrainian people, who are struggling to liberate the entire country from occupation. We uphold the Ukrainian people’s right to continue their liberation struggle. At the same time, we condemn the intrigues of U.S. imperialism and European imperialist powers, which, through their lackey in Kiev, aim to weaken their competitor Russia and expand their access to labor and natural resources in Ukraine and the so-called “Eastern Europe.”
Our description of the current situation may seem bleak and dark, but everywhere we turn our eyes, we see rays, glimmers, and beacons of light. The heroic Palestinian people continue their resistance struggle. Landless peasants in Brazil are occupying lands and cultivating it, struggling together without fear of the long and hard road to a new Brazil. Workers are going on general strikes in Greece. Students and masses are rising up against the government in Serbia. Farmers are blocking the streets in Brussels. Youth are attacking police stations in France. Tens of thousands are rising in Norway, for Palestine, against school closures, for local hospitals, and so on and so forth. We find all the hope we need in the organization and struggle of the people. We know that time never stands still; it always moves forward, and it is the people, and only the people, who change history. The struggle is hard; we see that it demands effort and that many give their lives, but it will ultimately prevail.
1st of May is a day of struggle where workers and the oppressed in all countries unite and show a glimpse of their strength. On this day, we urge you to stand on the right side, on the side of the people, on the side of the future, by organizing and struggling. The Kampkomiteen is an organization for and by struggle. We unite with all true anti-imperialists, with the working class, with working women, and with the youth who have the future ahead of them. Join our struggle, stand with us, and contribute by uniting with us.
Workers and the oppressed of all countries, unite!
Support the Palestinian resistance struggle! Free Palestine!
Struggle against rising costs and welfare cuts!
Down with Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine!
Support the struggle of landless peasants in Brazil!
Forward to the establishment of the Anti-Imperialist League!
