Brazil: Support the Solidarity Fundraiser for Peasant Families of the Gedeon José Duque Area

We share an unofficial translation of an article by Resistência Campoensa.

More than 120 peasant families from the Gedeon José Duque Revolutionary Area, located in Machadinho d’Oeste (RO) , are being victims of a series of violent attacks carried out by heavily armed goons linked to the paramilitary group “Invasão Zero”. The offensive, led by Gesulino Cesar Travagine Castro — convicted for involvement in the Buritis massacre — aims to expel the peasants from public land legitimately occupied by these families who have lived and produced there for years.

Crops have been burned, homes have been destroyed and dozens of families remain under constant threat. Pregnant women, children and the elderly are among those who now live in precarious conditions , without security, adequate food or access to basic health care.

Faced with this critical situation, a national solidarity campaign was formed, organized through the Support Committee for the Struggle for Land , which launched an online fundraiser to raise emergency funds.

The solidarity fundraiser seeks to guarantee:

  • Food and drinking water;
  • Medicines and health care;
  • Legal support for families;
  • Reconstruction of housing and basic supplies;
  • Reception and protection actions;

The UNIR Central Student Directory (DCE) joined the Support Committee for the Land Struggle and is actively involved in mobilizing physical donations, promoting concrete solidarity on the university campus.

The following are being collected:

  • Clothing and footwear;
  • Non-perishable food;
  • Personal hygiene and cleaning items;
  • Mattresses, blankets and household items;

Collection stations:

The DCE reinforces the call to the academic community and the population of Porto Velho to join forces and engage in this solidarity campaign, in defense of the right to land.
