Mexico: call to participate in the week of solidarity with Georges Ibrahim Abdallah and the Day of Heroism
We hereby share an unofficial translation of a call published by Mural Newspaper.
In Mexico, as in many parts of the world, democratic, revolutionary, anti-fascist, and anti-imperialist organizations actively and militantly support the demand for freedom for comrade Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, the Lebanese communist who, struggling against the illegal occupation of his country, has also supported the national liberation struggle of the heroic Palestinian people. Currently in Mexico, we are working towards the construction of the Anti-imperialist League, reinforcing this demand.
Comrade Georges Ibrahim Abdallah was part of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) during the 1970s, having closely interacted with Palestinian refugees in Lebanese territory. By the end of this decade, he contributed to the formation of the Lebanese Armed Revolutionary Factions (LARF), an organization that would extend the revolutionary armed struggle beyond national borders, targeting the capitals of imperialism in Europe.
Comrade Georges Abdallah was arrested in October 1984 by the French police for carrying false identification, as he was in clandestinity. However, these are minor offenses that would have allowed for his immediate release. Nevertheless, Yankee imperialism, in complicity with criminal Zionism, incriminated him for the double homicide of a military attaché from the U.S. embassy in France and an “Israeli” diplomat, which occurred in 1982. For these accusations, Georges Abdallah was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1987. Since 1999, his sentence has been revoked following a legal appeal; in 2003, a court granted him parole, contingent upon authorization from the French government. However, after eleven petitions since then, not only has our comrade not been released, but he is currently the political prisoner with the longest incarceration in the old Europe. This year, he is approaching 41 years imprisoned.
Since November 2024, the sentencing execution court again authorized his parole, with the central condition being his deportation to Lebanon and a prohibition on returning to France. This order was to be fulfilled by early December, but the counter-terrorism prosecutor filed an appeal, delaying the final decision after intervention from the U.S. State Department, which presented itself as a “civil party” in the trial, arguing that comrade Georges Abdallah should not be released “for opposing the occupation of his territory by Israel.”
On June 19, a hearing is scheduled in this court, and the Unitary Campaign for the Liberation of Georges Ibrahim Abdallah (CUpLGIA) has called for a week of international solidarity demanding the freedom of comrade Georges Ibrahim Abdallah from June 12 to June 19.
This date coincides with the commemorations of the 39th anniversary of the Day of Heroism, which is observed worldwide to honor the communists and war prisoners who bravely gave their lives in defiance of tyranny and the fascism of Alan Garcia in the prisons of Lurigancho, El Frontón, and the women’s prison of Santa Bárbara in Peru (1986), where the detainees combated to the death against the genocidal plan of the reaction, defeating it and confirming the moral, political, and military superiority of the people’s war and the Communist Party of Peru, led by Chairman Gonzalo and his all powerful thought. The political and war prisoners in Peru, amid the people’s war, transformed the prisons from centers of annihilation for the enemy into shinning trenches of combat for the revolution.
From June 12 to June 19, democrats, revolutionaries, anti-fascists, and anti-imperialists in Mexico and around the world have a great task: to raise the demand for freedom for comrade Georges Ibrahim Abdallah to the highest level!
From June 12 to June 19, we must strengthen international solidarity with the Palestinian people and their heroic National Resistance: From the river to the sea, Palestine will win!
From June 12 to June 19, it is a good time to once again demand that the old Mexican State to break diplomatic relations with that entity they call “Israel”: Death to the damned Zionist entity!
From June 12 to June 19, let us honor the struggle and memory of the communists, guerrilla combatants, and activists who were massacred in Peruvian prisons, but through their resistance defeated the sinister plans of the Peruvian reaction and U.S. imperialism: Long live the Day of Heroism!
