Ecuador: DEFEND THE LAND IS A RIGHT, COMBAT THE ENEMY IS A OBLIGATION! MILITANT SOLIDARITY WITH THE PEASANTS OF THE UNIÓN – LAS NAVES
Hereby we publish an unofficial translation of an article by FDLP-EC.
The Defense Front of the People’s Struggles of Ecuador expresses its most firm and combative solidarity with the peasants of the community La Unión, in the district Las Naves, province of Bolívar, who confront a brutal repression by the armed forces of the old State: police, military and henchmen at the service of the mines transactions of imperialism.
Again, the Ecuadorian State act as a guardian of imperialists’ interests and of the extractive enterprises, in this case CUMRIMINING S.A., whose presence was rejected categorically by the communities. This is not only a environmental conflict: it is a war of sovereignty, life, land but it also is part of the struggle against imperialism; where the peasants defend with dignity their territory against displacement, ecological destruction, criminalization and the offensive of bureaucratic capitalism.
CUMRIMINING is not only devastating the biodiversity and contaminating the water, but also destructs the communitarian organization, pushes forward the splitting, and re-forces the semi-feudality in the agriculture. It is enterprise of displacement, which presence is only sustained by bullets, gas and opportunists.
There are already wounded members of the community. The violence was unleashed by the direct orders of the Noboa government, which burdens the political and jurisdictional responsibility of the consequences of this militarized intervention. It is not a government of peace, it is a regime in service of transnational plunder!
We call upon all the people’s, peasant, democratic, environmentalist and anti-imperialist forces to speak up, break the media silence and organize active solidarity actions with the communities of Las Naves.
