Spanish State: Rally for Saif and Thiago Avila Promoted by the AIL in Valencia

We hereby share an unofficial translation of a report published by Servir al Pueblo on the 13th of May.

Last week we reported that the Anti-Imperialist League (AIL) had called for a rally in the city of Valencia to demand the release of Thiago Ávila and Saif Abukeshek. The activists were members of the new flotilla heading to Palestine on a humanitarian mission, and were intercepted by the Zionist navy in collaboration with the reactionary government of Greece.

On the weekend, we knew that, after days of torture in Zionist prisons, the activists from the flotilla had been released. Like other demonstrations across the Spanish State, the organizers of the rally decided to hold it to 1) celebrate the release of their comrades; and 2) demand the release of all Palestinian prisoners. In the days leading up to the event, three more organizations joined the call to action: the CGT (General Confederation of Labor) union, Manises for Palestine, and the Global Sumud Flotilla.

The mobilization took place without any significant incidents. Approximately 50 people participated, chanting slogans against Zionism and demanding the release of all Palestinian prisoners. Several cheers for the Palestinian national resistance were also heard, along with slogans such as “Resistance is not terrorism.” At the end of the demonstration, a Palestinian poem was read in Arabic and Spanish, and “My Land,” a Palestinian song also in Arabic, was played. Finally, participants were called upon to join the demonstration on Saturday, May 16, the anniversary of the Nakba, organized by RESCOP, and to attend the anti-imperialist and anti-repression events organized by the AIL.
