Colombia: PUT AN END TO THE CRIMES OF IMPERIALISM!
We hereby share an unofficial translation of a statement published on the Instagram account of Nueva Democracia on July 16th.
WITH JOAN SEBASTIÁN DURÁN, THE TOTAL NOW STANDS AT 22 MIGRANTS MURDERED BY ICE IN 2026 AND 400,000 MIGRANTS IMPRISONED
Last Monday, July 13th, Joan Sebastián, a young migrant, father, and worker, was murdered. Joan Sebastián had all his “legal” documentation, and was working as a delivery driver in his car. He was murdered next to his son, and as if that weren’t enough, they handcuffed his body to arrest him after he had been murdered.
ICE has now detained 400,000 migrants and there have been more than 300 murders since ICE was created in 2003.
Imperialism has declared war on the migrant people and the poorest masses of the country, all as part of the paper tiger’s growing reactionarization. Every day, ICE detains 2,000 people and imprisons them in the worst conditions while they await deportation—sometimes chained on the plane itself.
The protests calling for the abolition of ICE and demanding justice for Joan Sebastián, which took place following the murder, forced imperialism to halt its repression of migrants for two days.
While all this is happening, de la Espriella continues to hand our country over to Trump on a silver platter, legitimizing—as a faithful lackey—the repression suffered by Colombian migrants in the US; thus becoming another target of the anti-imperialist struggle.
This war openly declared against the masses highlights the need to build the necessary force to fight against the crimes of imperialism, both within the very bowels of the paper tiger, and in the countries that are attacked and subjugated day after day by Yankee imperialism.
