Spanish State: Pogroms in Collusion with Police face Migrants’ Self-Defense in Ceuta

On August 27, a pogrom took place against the African migrant masses camped in the Benitez Beach of Ceuta, Servir al Pueblo (SAP) has recently reported. The newspaper also reports on the migrants who have organized self-defense against these racist attacks, dealing a blow against the repressive forces of the Spanish State, which have collaborated in the pogroms.

SAP has reported that “Shouting ‘Out with the invaders’ and cheering for Spain, nearly 100 racists attacked Benitez Beach, where the migrants were camped”. SAP condemns this as a “clear act of fascist terrorism” “[that] seeks to perpetrate a crime against the people”. The fascist gangs attacked the migrant encampments, destroying tents and burning houses. Before the attack, the fascists blocked the arrival of a Red Cross humanitarian convoy with food and water, which tried to reach the encampment. Afterward the fascist gangs attacked the encampment. SAP condemns that the police officers collaborated and were active in the attack.

As an answer, a group of migrants rebelled against the racist attacks and carried out a self-defense action against the repressive forces. Around 30-40 migrants carried out an ambush against a military vehicle, injuring five military personnel. The migrants carried out the action around 5:30 a.m.: when the military vehicle approached a check point, a group of migrants started to throw big rocks against it. When the military were cornered and forced to abandon the vehicle, they received more rocks as they were fleeing. Afterward the police forces detained 12 migrants who they are accusing of carrying out the action.
