We hereby share an unofficial translation of the part on Mexico from the latest Weekly Newsletter published by Sol Rojo on September 14.
In the coming days, our democratic organization will mark ten years of public life. On September 21, the then called “Current of the People – Red Sun” realized its first mobilization in the city of Oaxaca with a demonstration and the installation of an indefinite protest camp on the Llano square, outside the District Courts.
At the time the families of the comrades who were imprisoned, accompanied by city residents, community members from the Istmo, university students and workers organized in the Intersindical, installed a protest camp, challenging the repressive police of Enrique Peña Nieto (PRI) and the then governor, Gabino Cué (PAN-PRD-PT-MC), demanding the liberation of the imprisoned comrades, who were accused of terrorism and possession of explosives limited to the use by the Mexican army.
The protest camp, made up mostly of women and children, valiantly faced the two-pronged repressive action of the State. On the one hand, defending the protest camp against eviction attempts by the regime who mobilized more than 500 riot police for two consecutive nights, attacking the demonstrators with tear gas. On the other hand, they defeated the plans of political isolation the hoxhaist revisionism attempted to create against our organization after our split from them. Neither the regime nor their lackeys achieved their aims. The protest camp was sustained for a whole week and broke the isolation, maintaining our class independence, forging alliances with more parts of the popular movement, which showed us their solidarity.
Those struggles from September 21 to 26 were our first public actions. At the time the first flags of the Red Sun proudly took the streets in the calloused hands of the humble people who kept shouting the slogan: “With the Red Sun the people will be victorious!”
Our flag of the Red Sun was premiered in the struggles on the streets, hitting the helmets and shields of the pigs of the then called Federal Police and UPOE [translator’s note: Special Operations Police Unit].
The regime and its lackeys could not believe it. How could that level of organization and firmness in the struggle be possible? They did not know our political project had been born as a “Current” in December 2007, in light of the lessons of the popular uprising of the APPO [translator’s note: Popular Assembly of the Peoples of Oaxaca]. Since then we had been preparing the construction of the Front of the People, as a revolutionary front of masses whose principal task is disputing the power of the enemy, part by part.
Today the Red Sun will complete 10 years of public life, being one of the most consistent organizations in the popular movement. Upholding, defending and applying the scientific ideology of the proletariat. Putting politics in command. Keeping our class independence intact against the old State, its parties and personalities. Demarcating camps with Parliamentary cretinism and economist opportunism. And especially going to the deepest and broadest masses, reaffirming the principle of the people, and the people alone, are the motive force in the making of world history.
The members of the Red Sun call upon our comrades and friends in Mexico and other parts of the world to celebrate the first 10 years of public life with a whole Commemorative Week from September 21 to 26, honoring our history and of those members of the Red Sun who have been murdered or disappeared by the regime, as well as those who have died of natural causes, giving their lives to defend this red flag.
