Brazil: Participate in the Demonstration for the 30th Anniversary of the Heroic Armed Resistance of Santa Elina
We hereby share an unofficial translation of a call published by Resistencia Camponesa.
LONG LIVE THE 30th ANNIVERSARY OF THE HEROIC ARMED PEASANT RESISTANCE OF SANTA ELINA!
Comrades,
Exactly 30 years ago, peasants launched a heroic armed resistance in the Santa Elina’s lands to conquer public lands that should belong to the peasants.
This is the mother battle! Thanks to these heroes, thousands of poor peasants, first as the Corumbiara Peasant Movement (MCC) and later as the League of Poor Peasants (LCP), conquered their piece of land and turned the Agrarian Revolution into the main demand of the Brazilian people.
Let’s all participate on 9th of August in the commemoration of this historical date alongside with our comrades from Corumbiara, Cerejeiras, Colorado do Oeste and Theobroma!
In the last 30 years, it has been demonstrated that we can’t expect nothing but deception, exploitation, oppression, hunger, and misery from this old State, this murderous far-right, and this opportunism, Thirty years have passed, and the latifundium continues to murder peasants and leaders, evicting camps while receiving full support from the judiciary and public funds. On the other hand, the peasants have less illusions, more class hatred, experience, and combativeness.
Despite the thousand promises, until today, the families victims of the tortures and massacres by the old State have not been compensated, despite that numerous international organisms have acknowledged the crimes by the Brazilian State against the poor peasants. In fact: the conquered land through the struggle of thousands of poor peasants in Rondônia are not acknowledged yet. Therefore, in order to honor our heroes and to reaffirm our oath, we demand:
LAND FOR THOSE WHO LIVE AND WORK ON IT!
THE PEOPLE WANT LAND, NOT REPRESSION!
LAND ENTITLEMENTS FOR ALL OF THE POOR OF THE COUNTRYSIDE!
IMMEDIATE COMPENSATION, WITHOUT BUREAUCRATIC DELAY, FOR ALL THE SANTA ELINA FAMILIES!
