VIDEO: In Defense of the Land Seizure – Nueva Democracia from Colombia

The democratic and popular newspaper Nueva Democracia has published a video in favor of the land seizure and against the criminalization and defamation of the peasants, as a response to FEDEGAN, the federation of the Colombian Latifundium.

In the video, Nueva Democracia explains the necessity of the land seizure as the only path for the poor and landless peasantry to conquer the just demand for land. They use the data of the concentration of land in Colombia – the country with the most land grabbing in Latin America.

Additionally, during the video the armed goons of the big landlords, which they use to evict the land seizures, are denounced. These are very similar to CONVIVIR, a program that served as a facade to strengthen paramilitary, looting and violence against peasants.

To conclude, they explain the failed false “agrarian reform”, which in addition to being insufficient – in three years they have given only 168.000 hectares of the 1,5 million hectares promised –, is also unable to solve the problem of land of the Colombian peasants.
