Nazariya Magazine Suffers Severe State Repression and Declares to Continue its Work
We hereby share a text received by Nazariya Magazine which they asked us to publish:
STATEMENT ON THE ILLEGAL DETENTIONS IN DELHI AND ANNOUNCEMENT OF REVIVING OUR MAGAZINE
Dear comrades,
Revolutionary Greetings!
As you must have already seen, in July one of our editorial board members, comrade Vallika Varshri had taken the decision to go underground (UG) and work as a professional revolutionary activist in a UG format. Her mother, IAS Archana Varma, then filed a bogus case of illegal confinement and conspiracy to frame activists working in organisations that have been active and important parts of the revolutionary and democratic movement in Delhi. Under this bogus case, comrades Gurkirat, Gaurav and Gauraang—members of Bhagat Singh Chhatra Ekta Manch, a revolutionary students organisation in Delhi University, comrades Lakshita (known as Baadal in activist circles and among friends) and Adv. Ehtmam-ul-Haque—members of Forum Against Corporatization And Militarization (FACAM), comrade Samrat—social activist and clinical psychologist from Yamunanagar, Haryana, and comrade Rudra—editorial board member of our magazine, were illegally abducted and taken to New Friends Colony Police Station by the Delhi Police Special Cell. There, comrades were subjected to brutal torture, psychological harrasment and intimidation. Comrade Ehtmam was subjected to brutal islamophobic abuse and torture and was even threatened with a fake encounter which they had almost executed. All the comrades were threatened to leave Delhi and leave activism. They were constantly red-tagged and accused to be members of the unlawfully banned CPI(Maoist). The officials involved in the entire incidents were hardcore brahmanical hindutva fascists and constantly kept saying that all communist parties and organisations are the same and should be lined up and killed.
However, they also held no pretense that their main enemy was the revolutionary ideology of Marxism-Leninism-Maoism and the New Democratic Revolutionary forces of the country, particularly its leading force, the CPI(Maoist). They even told comrade Rudra— “Aaj maovadi ideology follow kar rahe ho, kal jaake bandook uthaoge” (Today you’re following MLM ideology, tomorrow you will go and take up a gun).
Our magazine salutes comrade Vallika (Val) Varshri for the difficult decision that she took of working as an underground political activist. In a period of rapidly intensifying fascism and white state terror, when all democratic and people’s movements are in a setback, when the comprador bureaucratic fascist Indian state has declared a deadline of 31st March, 2026 to end the Marxist-Leninist-Maoist movement in the country, it came as a shock and source of frustration for the state that a comrade who comes from a comprador bureaucratic capitalist-big feudal landlord class background and is the daughter of an IAS officer, has gone underground in their very bastion of reaction, that is New Delhi. It is exactly for this reason, that the state, out of desperation and frustration, carried out this episode of brutal white terror. The illegal detentions and brutal repression occurred only because the state wanted to shut down the revolutionary and democratic movement in Delhi. To believe in any reason other than this or to believe that it was an incorrect decision for comrade Vallika to go underground and that’s why the repression happened, would be falling for the state’s psychological warfare under the Surajkund Scheme and becoming prey to their attempt to sow ideological confusion within comrades and derail the movement from taking a correct MLM position on methods of carrying out political work.
Our magazine has also followed the news regarding the expulsion of former CPI(Maoist) Politburo member and spokesperson of the CC, Mallojula Venugopal Rao aka Sonu, and Central Committee member Thakkallapalli Vasudeva Rao aka Rupesh/Sathish/Ashanna who were promoting a modern revisionist line of liquidating the armed agrarian guerrilla war going on under the leadership of the CPI(Maoist). It is not just important for the Maoist party to counter their opportunist-liquidationist-revisionist-revisionist line but it is of utmost importance for all Marxist-Leninist-Maoist organisations and activists in the country to take a stance against Opportunism-Liquidationism-Revisionism, particularly that of the Sonu Sathish gang. Nazariya Magazine has, since its founding, always continued the heritage of great magazines like Iskra, Pravda, People’s March and Towards A New Dawn, and waged an ideological crusade all forms of ideological attacks on the revolutionary movement, from the inside as well as the outside. It is thus that we see it important, more than ever, to continue to take out our magazine and wage a relentless struggle against the counter revolutionary ideological attacks against MLM. No matter what the state does or the consequences it may threaten us with, we will continue the important work that Nazariya Magazine does and we shall not cower from openly proclaiming our ideological stances.
It has also come to our notice that comrade Vallika had formed an ad hoc editorial committee to release a sixth issue of our magazine out of her own initiative, because there could be no contact with continuing editorial board members of the magazine due to state repression. We have received a PDF of that issue online and after reading it, we recognise it as the sixth issue of our magazine and we shall soon be making it available on the website. Due to the state repression and illegal seizure of comrade Rudra’s devices by the Delhi police special cell, we have been unable to recover our Instagram, Facebook and proton mail. Thus we are creating new accounts on these platforms.
Laal Salaam,
