FDLP-Ecuador: FREEDOM FOR OMAR CAMPOVERDE NOW!

We hereby share an unofficial translation of a statement from Defense Front of the People’s Struggles in Ecuador (FDLP).

The Defense Front of the People’s Struggles of Ecuador expresses its heartfelt class solidarity with comrade Omar Campoverde, a member of the Guevarist Movement, who has been the victim of the violation of his most basic rights as a political prisoner of the old State.

It has not been enough for the Public Prosecutor’s Office to construct a “legal” fallacy to keep him in captivity. Furthermore, in a clear display of arrogance, contempt, and disregard for our people, the corrupt and fascist government of Noboa ordered Omar’s transfer to the misnamed “Cárcel del Encuentro” (Encounter Prison), now a symbol of the punitive and incarcerating nature of the regime.

Nothing whatsoever justifies this transfer. On the contrary, it only confirms that Noboa intends to persecute the people’s fighters and intimidate popular activists, sending a brutal message: those who oppose his hunger-inducing, submissive, and repressive government will have no other fate than death or harsh captivity in that dungeon, now transformed into a veritable concentration camp.

We call on the conscious elements of the working class and the people to close ranks in defense of Omar Campoverde, to demand unrestricted respect for his rights, and to demand his immediate release.
