Brazil: ABRAPO and CEBRASPO Organize People’s Court and Mission of Solidarity with the Area Tiago Campin dos Santos

It is essential to organize ourselves in this new mission, taking into account the escalation of violations of the rights of the peasants of Rondônia (RO), A Nova Democracia (AND) reports. The peasant area, as well as the League of the Poor Peasants (LCP) faces persecution by big landlords, goons and the old State. There were peasants murdered in police operations, and defenders of the people’s right, as the lawyer Lenir Corrêa, were persecuted in 2025.
For this reason, the Brazilian Association of People’s Lawyers – Gabriel Pimenta (ABRAPO) and the Brazilian Center of Solidarity with the Peoples (CEBRASPO) calls on all democrats, progressive people, and organizations that defend the rights of the people, to struggle for their rights, especially those who defend the access to land for those who work on it. They also call to contribute to the National Solidarity Mission for the hundred of peasant families in the Area Tiago Campin dos Santos, which will be done in Porto Velho – RO, on March 20. The People’s Court will be done on March 28 and 29. It is expected that at least 20 popular organizations and known personalities and activists in the defense of the “human rights” participate in the mission.
The first mission was done on October 2021, and was fundamental to denounce the illegal eviction of the families from that same area carried out by the Military Police and the National Force, as well as to support the resistance of the families. ABRAPO and CEBRASPO explain that there is an increment in the violation of peasant’s rights in Rondônia.
ABRAPO and CEBRASPO denounce that the criminalization campaign against LCP and the peasant struggle in Rondônia has no legal base. This campaign was launched by Bolsonaro in 2020, when he accused the LCP of being a “terrorist organization”, and its intensity increased during the term of the ex-commander of the Military Police of Rondônia, Coronel Braguin, in 2025. In this way, the murder of peasants, for example Raimundo Nonato, was justified. This year “Operation Godos” also took place.
In this context of criminalization, the people’s lawyer Dra Lenir, en Rondônia, was also detained. The medical requirements – due to her diabetes and the necessity of cleaning the wounds of an amputation – of the peasant’s lawyer and member of ABRAPO were not followed.
ABRAPO and CEBRASPO made an estimation of costs, which includes 20 round-trip tickets to Porto Velho, five 4X4 vehicles to guarantee the trip despite strong raining in the area, food and accommodation. Transfers can be done through PIX:
