Brazil: A Nova Democracia Faces Anonymous Threats
The editorial team of A Nova Democracia (AND) received an anonymous threat containing the word “ADSUMUS” (Latin for “we are present” and used by the Naval Rifles in Brazil), accompanied by emojis. The sender, who did not respond to further questions, attempted to intimidate the editorial team due to AND’s strong coverage of the Iranian national resistance, Palestinian self-defense, and the revolutionary agrarian struggle in Brazil. AND writes that “This failed attempt at intimidation, so characteristic of fascist gangs known historically for their weak character and moral cowardice, does not come without reason” […] “Sheltered in the bureaucratic-big landlord institutionality, police and military corporations, the bureaucratic structure of intelligence services, death squads in the pay of the latifundium, and controlling territories in large cities, the fascists need to be swept away—and the democratic and popular press, one of the favorite targets of these scoundrels, needs to be defended with all our might”.
The AND editorial team warns progressives, democrats, and anti-imperialists to the need to defend democratic and popular press against these groups, which pose a threat to democratic press.
