Ecuador: MAY DAY MARCH IN IMBABURA TO BE A UNITED PROTEST AGAINST FASCISM AND IMPERIALISM.

We hereby share an unofficial translation of the 1st of May call published by the Defense Front of Workers Rights in Imbabura (FDDT-I) published on 26th of April.

Social and popular organizations in Imbabura have decided to march together on May 1. At a meeting convened by the Workers’ Rights Defense Front, the Popular Front, the FUT, and the Runas en Acción Open Assembly—with the presence of unions, works councils, associations, women’s collectives, environmentalists, and human rights defenders—it was agreed that this day will be the starting point for building a REVOLUTIONARY AND ANTI-IMPERIALIST BLOCK as a space of unity for all those affected by the policies of Daniel Noboa and the IMF.

The call is open to all social and grassroots organizations and the indigenous movement. However, the organizing groups made it clear: “This march belongs to the workers.” There will be no room for opportunists who exploit the people’s interests for anti-popular agendas aligned with the regime. The mobilization will begin at 8:30 a.m. from the Madre roundabout in the city of Ibarra.

May 1 is a historic date that commemorates the Chicago martyrs, the workers who risked their lives so that we might enjoy labor rights today. That very blood compels us not to let our guard down in the face of a government that has laid off more than 5,000 public workers, raised the VAT to 15%, eliminated the diesel subsidy, and handed the country over to the IMF for $5 billion.
