Anti-Imperialist Front of Ecuador: May Day Statement
We hereby share an unofficial translation of a May Day statement published on the Anti-imperialist Front of Ecuador.
Proletarians of all countries, unite!
REBELLIOUS, INTERNATIONALIST,
AND COMMITTED TO IDEOLOGICAL STRUGGLE!
This May 1st should not be merely a day of commemoration; on the contrary, it should be a day of struggle that reaffirms the role of the proletariat in relation to the organization and struggle of all oppressed and exploited sectors, not only in Ecuador but throughout the world; a day of ideological struggle, of class affirmation, and of an open call for the revolutionary transformation of the old society.
The country is going through one of the most critical moments in its history. But we must understand this: this situation is neither accidental nor isolated; it is linked to the international political situation. The government has launched an offensive that is hitting the masses on all fronts: employment, education, health, and security; furthermore, it has fostered the persecution of grassroots activists, peasants, trade unionists, environmentalists, and organizations that oppose the regime. This scenario goes hand in hand with a further reactionary shift in the state’s repressive apparatus: states of emergency, curfews, bombings, and other acts of war that have affected the poor peasantry; violence generated with the support and active presence of the two most reactionary, criminal, and interventionist forces on the planet: US imperialism and Israeli Zionism.
May this May 1st also become a battleground for the struggle between two lines, for ideological reaffirmation within the class’s conscious element; and for the ideological struggle elevated to a class struggle against revisionists and opportunists of every stripe, who push the masses toward parliamentarism, electoralism, reformism, and every form of conciliation with those who oppress, exploit, and massacre us. There can be no social transformation if we do not decisively and simultaneously combat the old State, imperialism, and its political agents in the country: revisionism and opportunism!
From Ecuador, this May 1st must also be a day of militant solidarity with the peoples resisting imperialist and Zionist aggression. Our solidarity is with the peoples—with the workers, peasants, and masses who are being brutally attacked in Palestine, Yemen, Iraq, Iran, Venezuela, and Cuba.
Comrades, the only possible unity within the working class lies in ideology; the only path forward is the democratic one, the one that commits us and drives us to seize power. The only objective alliance consistent with history is the alliance between workers, peasants, and the people; with that unity and that alliance, we have what it takes to set out to conquer the heights.
FOR A REBELLIOUS, INTERNATIONALIST MAY DAY FILLED WITH IDEOLOGICAL STRUGGLE!
FOR SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION AND THE COMBATIVE ORGANIZATION OF THE PEOPLE! DOWN WITH REVISIONISM, OPPORTUNISM, AND ELECTORALISM!
DOWN WITH IMPERIALIST DOMINATION AND ALL FOREIGN INTERFERENCE!
LONG LIVE THE WORKERS’, PEASANTS’, AND PEOPLE’S ALLIANCE!
LONG LIVE THE ANTI-IMPERIALIST STRUGGLE OF THE PEOPLES OF THE WORLD!
LONG LIVE THE ANTI-IMPERIALIST FRONT OF ECUADOR!
