June 25th has become a day of annual protests since the large protests that took place in Kenya in 2024. This Thursday, thousands took to the streets demanding justice for the dozens murdered and the dozens disappeared.
Despite the fact that the Kenyan president William Ruto announced that the protest would be permitted, the State erected barricades with barbed wires, blockaded the streets and deployed thousands of police officers to prevent the mobilization, and in Nairobi, more than 350 were arrested. Police also fired tear gas at the protesters. Additionally there is abundant footage which shows the State kidnapping activists using cars with fake license plates.
Several organizations, among them the Revolutionary Students Commission, have demanded freedom for the arrested activists.
We have recently reported on one of the kidnapped activists, Mulinge Muteti from the Revolutionary Students Commission.
