Brazil: Yankee Intervention Increases in the Amazonia

On August 10 and 11, US Embassy agents visited different police and military facilities in the Acre state, in the Brazilian Amazonia, A Nova Democracia (AND) reports. The visit included areas near the borders with Peru and Bolivia. The agents discussed with Brazilian agents about how to gather more information from the Brazilian repressive forces and about new training of them.

AND explains that the Yankee intervention neither begins nor ends with this visit. In this year, the Acre repressive apparatus has received agents from “the US Department of Homeland Security, border police, members of the Coast Guard, and an attaché from the US Air Force itself”. The Brazilian old State proved its lackey character by opening its facilities and methods of operation to the Yankee visitors, exchanging databases, sending dozens of agents to receive SWAT training in the United States and discussing new training programs conducted by the Yankee repressive forces.

The Yankees have for a long time had access to works of the Brazilian agencies, knowledge of the border facilities, circulation of information, training of repressive forces. Over the past years there is a clear increased presence of reactionary US Armed Forces in the Brazilian Amazon. For example, in November 2023, Operation CORE 23 brought together approximately 1,600 military personnel in Pará and Amapá, of which 270 belonged to the United States Army.

AND concludes that Acre, among other areas, such as Rondônia, and neighboring areas of Western Amazonia, “are the focus of a growing revolutionary struggle in the form of peasant war that combats the expansion of the latifundium, land grabbing, use of goons, advancing the peasant and indigenous peoples’ struggles for land.” The increasing Yankee intervention attempts to reinforce its control over the repressive forces in the area.
