Greece: Protests Against the Visit of Marco Rubio
The Gusano US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, is currently on a European tour through the countries of Iceland, Greece and Portugal.
During his visit to Greece several organizations, among them the KKE (m-l) called for demonstrations against imperialism, militarization and reactionarization. The government, fearing popular mobilization, have put out a general ban on manifestations on October 6 and 7.
Undeterred, popular demonstrations were carried out in spite of these bans in several cities, including Xanthi, Heraklion, Ioannina, Athens, Karlovasi, Antigeitonies reports.
Thousands of people gathered in the streets of Athens, on October 8, denouncing the arrival of Marco Rubio. KKE (m-l) participated with other organizations in a rally called for at the Propylaea, marching onward to the US and Israeli embassies.


In Ioaninna, an anti-imperialist demonstration was carried out on October 6. Popular organizations and student associations participated in a march to the city center. KKE (m-l) had called for a pre-rally and demonstration, who fielded banners and shouted slogans that the peoples, in solidarity and relying on their own forces, can put a stop to the war plans of the imperialists.

In Xanthi, a demonstration gathered in response to the call for mobilization against Rubio’s visit. The Xanthi Student Association, the Private Employees’ Union, ELME, the Anti-War Initiative and the KKE (m-l) participated with banners and the deepening of the subservience of the State and government was denounced with slogans through the streets. A call was also made to join a demonstration in support of the heroic Palestinian people that took place on October 10.

In Heraklion, a rally was carried out on October 6. KKE (m-l) took part with banners, and held a speech denouncing the visit of the representative of Yankee imperialism, Marco Rubio, and the increasing participation of the Greek bourgeoisie in Yankee war plans.

In Karlovasi,a rally was carried outat Karlavasos Sqaure on October 6, called for by the KKE (m-l). Leaflets were distributed to passersby and locals, as well as to people sitting in nearby restaurants and cafes.
