Spanish State – Revolutionary Committees: Don’t Vote –Boycott the Bourgeois Elections!

We hereby share a translation that we have received per mail of a statement published by the Revolutionary Committees of the Spanish State on October 5.

The early election announced by Pedro Sánchez is a maneuver by the bourgeoisie to restore the legitimacy of a government that is in shambles, sinking in corruption scandals and incapable of maintaining social peace. Thus, the electoral farce will take place on November 29. We call it an electoral farce because bourgeois elections are a farce. The only thing being chosen is the next group of bourgeois leaders who will crush the proletariat for the next four years.

Whoever wins on November 29, the proletariat will lose. Whether the PP and Vox win, or whether the PSOE and its allies win, everything will remain the same. Nothing has fundamentally changed over the past eight years.

The “most progressive government in history” has done nothing for the proletariat over the past 8 years. The poverty rate stands at 25.7%, and child poverty at 34.8%. Rent costs between 50% and 80% of monthly wages, depending on the city, and mortgage terms are becoming increasingly difficult. There are nearly 50 evictions every day, and the cost of the basic basket of goods rises year after year. While the lives of the working class worsen, the big bourgeoisie is breaking profit records. In 2025 alone, the banking monopoly exceeded 34 billion euros in net profit.

The “most progressive government in history” has not repealed the “Ley Mordaza” (Translator’s note: The “Gag Law” is a repressive law that expands the police’s authority.), nor has it withdrawn us from NATO, nor has it imposed an arms embargo on Israel. This government has increased military budgets and has cracked down on the pro-Palestinian movement, trade unionists, and anti-imperialists—it has repressed thousands of people. The “most progressive government in history” maintains a murderous immigration policy responsible for the massacres in Melilla (June 24, 2022) and Ceuta (July 31, 2026).

It is false that the government “did what it could” because it had little parliamentary support. The government has acted this way because that is its function. The government of an imperialist state is limited to managing the interests of the imperialists (the big bourgeoisie organized into monopolies). Any government of a bourgeois state will be a bourgeois government. In this case, any government of the Spanish imperialist state will be an imperialist government.

The state has been militarizing for years. It is naive to think that this depends on the government. Whether the PP and Vox are in power, or the PSOE continues to govern with its “progressive” allies, the state will continue to militarize. Repression will continue to increase, just as it has over the past 8 years. The process of state militarization, along with the rise of reaction and fascism, is imperialism’s response to a new period of revolutions unfolding across the globe. In each and every country in the world, regardless of the nature of its government, states are becoming increasingly militarized.

No matter who is in power, there will be more repression, more complicity with fascism, and more complicity with reactionary forces. No matter who is in power, military budgets will increase and warmongering will grow. The militarization of the Spanish state is the strategic project of the Spanish big bourgeoisie. The next bourgeois leader in power will continue this militarization.

DON’T VOTE, FIGHT!

The bourgeoisie will call for a vote on November 29. They know that Spanish imperialism is in a crisis unprecedented in its history and that the legitimacy of bourgeois democracy has collapsed once and for all. Millions will not vote. Just look at the last elections. In the most recent general election, the abstention rate was 29.4%. In the Galician elections, it was 32.69%. In the Basque elections, 37.5%. In the Catalan elections, 42.1%. In the European elections, 50.79%. In the Extremaduran elections, 37.3%. In the Aragonese elections, 34.91%. In the Andalusian elections, 35.2%. In each and every bourgeois election, millions reject the electoral farce. Logically, this is not a conscious, revolutionary rejection of bourgeois democracy, but it is a genuine rejection. These are more than favorable conditions for building a strong revolutionary movement. To make matters worse, abstention is always higher in working-class neighborhoods, in poor regions, and in the areas hardest hit by the crisis caused by the imperialists. To these figures—which are extraordinarily high in and of themselves—we must add that a significant portion of those who do vote do so knowing that nothing will change. In the face of all this, our message is clear: Don’t vote—fight!

There is no “less bad” candidate. The only thing voting accomplishes is legitimizing the next bourgeois leader in power. The proletariat does not have to choose between the bad and the worse. Don’t vote—fight!

There is no “anti-fascist” candidate or vote. Voting does nothing to stop fascism. The rise of reaction and fascism is a natural process resulting from the militarization of states. Don’t vote—fight!

There is no such thing as a candidate who serves as a “spokesperson” for revolutionaries. Any candidacy serves to prop up bourgeois democracy, legitimize the current bourgeois leader, and create false parliamentary illusions among the masses. Use the elections for propaganda? Yes, but in the form of a boycott—not by participating in them. Don’t vote—fight!

There are no middle grounds. We reject slogans that boil down to “no matter how you vote, keep fighting,” because they create confusion among the ranks of the proletariat and help perpetuate illusions in parliament. Let’s be firm and clear: Don’t vote—fight!

Boycott the bourgeois elections!

Boycott the electoral farce!

Don’t vote—fight!
