Since our last report, the popular struggles are still developing in the streets of the Spanish State. After the demonstrations throughout the Spanish State in response to the eviction of Maricarmen at the hand of the real estate company Urbagestión, and the general precarious housing situation throughout the country, more sectors of the popular movement have taken to the streets. The encampments that were erected in struggle against precarious living situations throughout the Spanish State also continue.

On October 19, police attacked a mobilization of striking teachers carrying out a blockade of the A-3 Highway near the Moratalaz neighborhood in Madrid.

On October 22, teachers from non-university schools in the Madrid region, in an ongoing strike led by several unions, marched to Atocha Station, gathering in a rally where the teachers, parents and students participated. Among the demands of the teachers are fewer classes, reducing it to 17 weekly classes in Secondary and Vocational Training, and 22 in Infant and Primary Education. Additionally, they demand a salary increase of 600 EUR, and better conditions in the schools, including air-conditioning, asbestos removal and structural improvements.

On October 24, tens of thousands took to the streets of Madrid, demonstrating against the privatization of the pension system. The demonstration, called by the State Coordinator for the Defense of the Public Pension System(COESPE), demanded measures to guarantee the purchasing power of pensioners and strengthen their protection.

On October 28 , APAG Extramedura ASAJA (Farmer’s Union of Extramedura) has called for a demonstration under the slogan “Feeding people must also provide a living.” The protest will continue until November 12, and an encampment will be carried out in that period.
