A Nova Democracia (AND) has reported on new intimidation attempts by the former general of the Rondônia Military Police (PM-RO) Braguin has carried out new actions trying to intimidate peasant organizations. Reportedly Braguin showed up with four cars filled with armed goons on October 23 to threaten a peasant assembly in which options for the legal recognition of their lands was to be discussed. We have previously reported on his murderous role in the region, when he was dismissed from his post:

As such he has also posted pictures of armed goons on his social media announcing that he is “back in the area”.

AND has also denounced sabotages by the police against the peasants, including the destruction of a tractor. The Committee to Support the Struggle for Land (CALT) has released an urgent call for solidarity with the peasants of the area.

The League of the Poor Peasants (LCP) meanwhile has made clear, that they are not intimidated by the criminal ex-general in a statement published on October 19, of which we shared an unofficial translation. As AND highlights:

“It is this persistence in the struggle, supported by broad national and international solidarity, that Braguin and others of his ilk fantasize about stifling, according to the LCP. In a statement dated October 19, the LCP reaffirmed that ‘only the Agrarian Revolution defeats the latifundium and the extreme right’ and that the assassinations, imprisonments, and campaign of criminalization and demonization of the peasant movement will not stop their struggle: “we move forward and we will triumph.”
