CIIT: US delegation arrives in Mexico – protests continue in Mexico and internationally
As the Mexican president Lopez Obrador receives US ”special presidential envoy for climate” John Kerry, other US congressmen and businessmen for a visit to supervise the advancing of the imperialist mega-project CIIT on the Isthmus of Tehuantepec on the 21st of March, protests continue both in Mexico and internationally.
Activists of the Frente de Organizaciones Oaxaqueñas (FORO) organized a march in the city of Oaxaca, Mexico, on the 20th of March, on the day president Lopez Obrador visited the city. The march ended on the central square in front of the Government Palace, where the activists declared an occupation of the area until their demands are met. The protesters denounced the ignorance of the state towards the demands of the local people and the human rights violations committed by the CIIT project.
Democratic revolutionary forces expanded their protest to a blockade of a highway in San Juan Guichicovi on Sunday. Another blockade of the the Mogoñe Viejo-Vixidu section of the railway on the Isthmus of Tehuantepec has lasted for 21 days, on which we have reported earlier. The protesters reaffirmed their anger with the plans of building windmills and gas pipelines with Yankee investment, against the consent of the local people and without caring about the effects on their daily lives.
In the speech on the video the protesters demand the state authorities to listen to their demands and to respect their rights, and declare that they will block the highway for an indefinite time. They shout: “No to the Interoceanic Corridor! The Navy out of our lands! If we do not have a solution, will will block this highway indefinitely! Solution, solution, we want a solution!”
In solidarity with the struggle of the Mexican people, following the call published by the Current of the People – Red Sun, actions were made in Europe.
Revolutionary newspaper in Servir al Pueblo reports that activists have carried out actions in solidarity with the Mexican people against the CIIT in a working-class neighborhood of the city of Elche.
In Düsseldorf, a rally was held for around an hour at the street leading to the the Mexican Honorary Consulate on Monday, the revolutionary news site Dem Volke Dienen reports. Combative slogans were shouted in German and Spanish, and music was played. Various short speeches were made, in which the current situation in Mexico was explained and the terror against the poor peasants and indigenous people was denounced, as well as the role of Yankee imperialism in the project and the murders of Filogonio Martínez Merino and Jesús Manuel García Martínez “Chu Pau” last October. The protest moved on to the entrance of the Honorary Consulate. According to the report, many people passing by were interested and sympathetic towards the demonstration.
Also a graffiti was seen in Essen on the train station of Bergeborbeck district before the rally.
