New actions in the People’s War on the Philippines

On the 27th of June, the New People’s Army (NPA), under the leadership of the Communist Party of the Philippines, carried out a harassment operation against the 41st Division Reconnaissance Company of the Philippine Army. The operation took place around 4:30 in the afternoon, in Barangay Das-agan, San Francisco, Agusan del Sur. A soldier of the Philippine Army was killed in the operation and another one was wounded.

We have reported on another action of the NPA, also on the 27th of June, where a soldier of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) was killed and another was injured.

On the 6th and 10th of July the NPA launched a harassment and demolition operation in Sorsogon. The operation targeted the soldiers of the 22nd Infantry Battalion of the old Filipino State. In first offensive of the operation on the 6th, the NPA attacked soldiers who had been camping in an evacuation center for three weeks. The soldiers fled and broke into houses of civilians and used them as human shields. In the second offensive of the operation the NPA blew up the fence of a 22nd Infantry Battalion camp.

On the 7th of July, 7:00 in the morning, the NPA attacked a team from the 94th Infantry Battalion in Negros Occidental. The soldiers of the AFP were on their way to the house where they were resting when they were attacked. Two of the soldiers were killed in the action.

Potenciano Sevilla (Ka BamBam) of the NPA was martyred in the fight. In a statement regarding the action, the Mt. Cansermon Command of the NPA salutes the courage and determination of their fallen comrade:“The MCC-NPA and the revolutionary forces give Red salutes to Ka Bambam who showed courage and determination in facing the enemy. His life that was sacrificed for the revolution will be an inspiration and will add fertilizer to the fertile land for the continued armed struggle” (Our translation). The statement also adds that their units were moving in favorable terrain and that the AFP did not recover any weapons after the encounter.

Also on the 7th of July, at 10:00 in the morning, the NPA killed Androy Gil, a member of the CAFGU, an auxiliary military unit of the AFP. Gil was also a member of the paramilitary group Alimaong, and an intelligent asset of the AFP. The NPA seized a caliber .45 gun and two magazines from him.
