Mexico: Weekly newsletter

We publish an unofficial translation of the part on Mexico from the weekly newsletter by Solrojista:

Throughout this month, the Zapatista National Liberation Army (EZLN) has published a new series of installments where it addresses various topics on the national and international context. Of all these, the one that has shaken the calmness of the old State is the one titled “The Journey” where Captain Marcos, as a postscript, reflects on the AMLO government saying: “He had the authoritarianism of Gustavo Díaz Ordaz; the cardboard nationalism of Luis Echeverría Álvarez, the corrupt demagoguery of José López Portillo, the administrative mediocrity of Miguel de la Madrid, the perversity of Carlos Salinas de Gortari, the criminal vocation of Ernesto Zedillo, the encyclopedic ignorance of Vicente Fox, the militarism and the short fuse of Felipe Calderón, and the frivolous superficiality of Enrique Peña Nieto. Who is he? Oh, and the court of sycophants of them all. Presidents change, payrolls change. The self-praise and loudness is part of the “personal style of governing”.

This caused the old bureaucrat from the National Palace to respond angrily in one another of his morning conversations, “Even Marcos says that I am Díaz Ordaz and Salinas, he must be Zapata.” Afterwards, Marcos in his, EL ALEPH MAYA?, again dedicates a new postscript to AMLO mentioning “Ah! Theyare so predictable. A few lines in a postscript were enough to make them hysterical. Even in that they are equal. And we are just “starting again”. For now, his reaction “pulled” many glances this way. It’s a pity that they are already leaving, we are going to miss them.”

Despite the cooption and demobilization that Four-theist [Translator’s note: reference to the 4th Transformation] opportunism imposed on broad sectors of the movement, other democratic and revolutionary formations have remained firm in their positions, being consistent with their thoughts and actions. References such as the EZLN, the CNI-CIG, the FECSM, the CNTE, the ANP and our own organization have maintained resistance and organization from below, trusting in the forces of the people and the justness of our struggles. Without a doubt, the costs that each of these organizations have had to pay throughout the six-year term show how the structure of the old State (whoever governs) serves only to protect the interests of big landlords, big bourgeois and the imperialist masters. Now the six-year term is about to end, but the continuity of the political-economic dictate by imperialism is assured with the rise of Sheinbaum, and this will bring greater corporatization and greater militarization, which always leads to the same scenario. Given this, the popular movement has the task of re-tense its forces from an anti-electoral, anti-capitalist and anti-imperialist perspective, placing unity in action and unity upon principles as its main axis in the perspective of struggling for national liberation. Our slogan is still valid: Whoever governs, the rights of the people are defended!
