Mexico: In memory of GN Saibaba

We publish an unofficial translation of the statement by Current of the People – Red Sun

The Current of the People – Red Sun, member of the Organizing Committee of the Anti-imperialist League (LAI), extends its condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Doctor GN Saibaba, prominent intellectual, academic, democrat and defender of the workers and the people of India, who died at the age of 57 on last October 12 at the Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences, in Hyderabad, after a complication after undergoing surgery.

Dr. Saibaba was an academic at Ram Lal Anand (RLA) College, University of Delhi, who was fired in 2021 by orders of the old State who kept him in prison for the last 10 years of his life, accused of having “ties with Maoism.” For this accusation, Doctor Saibaba was sentenced to life imprisonment suspecting his militancy in the Communist Party of India (Maoist) who leads the brilliant People’s War that began in May 1967 and continued to today by the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army.

Dr. Saibaba suffered from a health condition that kept him in a wheelchair with a loss of motor skills of 90% of his body. Even so, he was subjected to a severe regime of torture and isolation that resulted in lack of medical care during the time of his confinement. It is clear that the Hindu-brahmanical fascist regime tried to break his revolutionary morality by treating him this way, keeping him in isolation most of the time during the ten years in prison, causing irreversible damage to his health.

Finally, this March, the Bombay High Court agreed to acquit and release hi after a grueling legal battle waged by his defense and family, together with his comrades from the Committee for Defense and Liberation of Dr. GN Saibaba, the Revolutionary Democratic Front and millions of people in India and the world. Doctor Saibaba was released as soon as only 7 months and he died like men who serve the people wholeheartedly, with integrity and high moral.

The death of Doctor GN Saibaba must be understood as a political murder of the regime that persecutes progressive intellectuals, bombs villages and massacres the Adivasi peoples.

The death of Doctor GN Saibaba then has more weight than the highest mountain, because he died serving the revolutionary cause of his people, being an imperishable example for the oppressed peoples of the world.

Our democratic-revolutionary organization bows its red flags, which are the flags of the New Democratic Revolution, agrarian and anti-imperialist, unstopped movement towards Socialism, in memory of this hero of the people, whose name today is inscribed on the wall of honor of the international proletariat.

We call our militancy, our sympathizers and friends to learn about the life and struggle of comrade Doctor GN Saibaba, to hold all kinds of meetings, events, talks and study circles that allow you to socialize and get to know better their contributions and the struggle of the proletariat and peoples of India, who give birth to the New Power through the barrel of the gun in the midst of the brilliant People’s War.
